"US backs ban on bluefin tuna trade" by Juliet Eilperin, Washington Post | March 4, 2010

WASHINGTON - The US government announced yesterday that it supports prohibiting international trade of Atlantic bluefin tuna, a move that could lead to the most sweeping trade restrictions ever imposed on the highly prized fish.

That would be a first.

Yeah, well, we don't like the new government because they wanted to give the U.S. military the heave-ho.

Sushi aficionados in Japan and elsewhere have consumed bluefin for decades, causing the fish’s population to plummet. In less than two weeks, representatives from 175 countries will convene in Doha, Qatar, to determine whether to restrict the trade of bluefin tuna - valued for its rich, buttery taste - and an array of other imperiled species under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species.

Then how come the BG hasn't followed up?

Late last year, Monaco proposed listing Atlantic bluefin tuna under the treaty’s Appendix I, which amounts to a total ban.

Not that I want them overfishing the tuna, but how the Japanese supposed to eat?

The Obama administration did not immediately endorse the proposal, a move that sparked widespread criticism from American marine scientists and ocean activists. But Tom Strickland, assistant secretary for fish and wildlife and parks at the Department of the Interior, privately backed the proposal from the outset.

Tired of the two-faced s*** fooleys from AmeriKa's leaders, world?

Japan, the world’s largest bluefin consumer, opposes the idea of trade restrictions, while the European Union has yet to take a formal position.

In an interview yesterday, Strickland said the United States decided it needed to push for the new protection because “the regulatory mechanisms that have been relied upon have failed to do the job.’’

Strickland will lead the US delegation to the international convention between March 13 and 25.

I'll be checking my paper (if I keep purchasing them; I have my brackets, readers).

Over the past 40 years, the adult population of eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean bluefin tuna has declined 72 percent. In the western Atlantic, the population has dropped 82 percent. The declines occurred even though bluefin fishing was being governed by an international panel that sets catch quotas and is supposed to curtail illegal fishing.

Oh, so what is the answer to a failed solution?

More of the same!!

No wonder this world is spinning out of control and all the globalist plans are turning to shit.

They are operating on a false set of premises, and that's never good no matter who you are or whatever the problem.

"US veterans return to Iwo Jima for 65th reunion" by Eric Talmadge, Associated Press | March 4, 2010

IWO JIMA, Japan - Former Marine commander Richard Rothwell was among nearly a dozen veterans able to make the 65th anniversary trip to the tiny Japanese island because of last-minute intervention by the US Marines Corps, which flew the stranded group here after their charter flight was diverted to Haiti to help with quake aid....

The US flag was raised above Mount Suribachi on Feb. 23, 1945, but fighting continued for more than a month. Nearly 28,000 troops were killed in one of the war’s most iconic battles.

Yes, as you can see I have Eastwood's companion perspective to "Flags of Our Fathers" as one of my favorite movies.

I also resent the false history my state school taught me surrounding Pearl Harbor and the events preceding that attack.

All wars based on state-sanctioned and -supported lies promulgated by a mouthpiece MSM -- then as now, America. Nothing has changed there.

Though scenic, Iwo Jima is still dangerous. It is inhabited only by about 300 Japanese troops because it is believed to be covered with too much unexploded ordnance to be habitable.

The trip was arranged by Colorado-based Greatest Generations Group.

About two dozen veterans who arrived earlier attended a memorial with US and Japanese dignitaries and the families of Japanese who were killed.

Being ordered to defend Iwo Jima was a death sentence, and the Japanese knew it.

"Earthquake rattles buildings in Japan" by Associated Press | March 15, 2010

TOKYO — A strong magnitude-6.6 earthquake off the eastern coast of Japan yesterday rattled buildings across a broad swath of the country, including the crowded capital.

There were no reports of casualties and only light damage to structures near the epicenter, according to local officials....

Seems to be a bit too many of them lately, doesn't there?

The government said there was no danger of a tsunami.

Japan’s early warning system predicted the earthquake just before it hit, with public broadcaster NHK interrupting a sumo match to warn residents to take cover.

Hmm.

Japan is one of the world’s most earthquake-prone countries....

Is that why I didn't hear a HAARP?

The world has seen an unusual string of major earthquakes in recent months, but seismologists say that is just a coincidence.

Now that makes me think that it is not.

Bernard Doft, a seismologist for the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute, said there was no direct connection among the lethal quakes that struck Haiti, Chile, and Turkey.
