Stupid Stupak Stepping Down

So Pelosi threatens to vote yes and then he quits?

"Michigan Democrat says he will not seek reelection

MARQUETTE, Mich. — Representative Bart Stupak, an antiabortion Democrat targeted for defeat for his crucial role in securing House approval of the health care overhaul, confirmed yesterday that we won’t seek reelection this fall.

Stupak said during a news conference that he made the decision within the last 36 hours not to seek a 10th term. He said he thought his main legislative goal — a national health care overhaul — was accomplished. “I’ve struggled with this decision. I’ve wanted to leave a couple of times, but I always thought there was one more job to be done,’’ Stupak said.

What bull-oney!

Stupak said earlier that he believed he could have won reelection.

Then they don't quit; it's not in their egotistical, perk-porking nature.

He insists he wasn’t being chased from the race by the Tea Party Express, which is holding rallies this week in his northern Michigan district calling for his ouster.

Translation: He is. Politicians lie, people.

“It’s time to begin a new and exciting chapter,’’ Stupak said, adding that he was tired after 18 years in office and wanted to spend more time with his family.

I'll bet the voters are tired of you, too.

Stupak also mentioned threats he has received because of his stance and votes on various issues....

Pffft!

FBI looking into them, or... ?

FLASHBACK:

"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would have to both reassure members the party will bolster their reelection bids and discipline recalcitrant members. “She’s got to lean on people,’’ he said.... House Speaker Nancy Pelosi must proceed on two fronts. First, she must reassure her own caucus that if they support the healthcare bill, they can depend on strong support from the House Democratic Campaign Committee in the upcoming campaign season.

"The other, quite candidly, is intimidation," Ross Baker, a political science professor at Rutgers University who served as a scholar-in-residence in the office of Senate majority leader Harry Reid in 2008, said. Pelosi has to threaten people like Representative Bart Stupak of Michigan, the leading voice of antiabortion Democrats in the House, with the loss of his subcommittee, he said. "She's got to demand it of them...."

I guess Bart said awww, the hell with it, huh?
