Murder Mystery at Maine Campground

"Man and son found dead at hunting camp

A man and his son were found dead yesterday at a hunting camp in central Maine. Steve McCausland of the Maine Department of Public Safety said detectives listed the deaths as “unexplained.” The two were identified as Andrew Giroux, 49, of Saco, who owned the camp in Sangerville, and Dustin Giroux, 25, also of Saco. McCausland said the two men were spending the weekend at the camp with four others. The elder Giroux’s body was found outside the camp yesterday morning; his son’s body was inside, in bed. Authorities said there was no obvious sign of foul play. Autopsies are pending (AP)."

"No conclusion in Maine father-son deaths

SANGERVILLE, Maine --Autopsies performed Tuesday failed to provide definitive answers about what caused the deaths of a father and son from Saco during a weekend outing at a hunting camp.

The state medical examiner's office in Augusta delayed its conclusion "pending further studies" into the deaths of Andrew Giroux, 49, and his son Dustin Giroux, 25, a spokeswoman said. The additional tests and investigation by police are expected to take several weeks.

The two men were part of a party of six men who gathered in Sangerville to celebrate the younger Giroux's upcoming marriage and to prepare for the upcoming hunting season.

The elder Giroux was found dead outside the camp Sunday morning, hours after the group had visited a bar in Dover-Foxcroft, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety in Augusta. Others in the party soon discovered his son inside in bed. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

The case was classified as "unexplained deaths" after investigators found no indication of foul play, McCausland said.

Father and son were in a heating service business together.

Bob Giroux, a brother of Andrew Giroux, told the Portland Press Herald that weekend getaway was like a bachelor party for his nephew, and that his brother was excited about the Aug. 21 wedding.

After returning from their outing in Dover-Foxcroft, the men gathered around a bonfire before calling it a night at about 1:30 a.m., said Brian Johnson of Kennebunk, a close friend.
