Jerry Brown Just Lost the Governorship of California

It's WHAM, BAM, thank you, ma'am when it comes to the VOTE!

"Use of salty language roils Calif. election" by Karen Tumulty, Washington Post  |  October 9, 2010

WASHINGTON — Jerry Brown has developed a woman problem — specifically, that he does not seem to grasp what it means to be running against one.

The Los Angeles Times reported Thursday that in a private conversation inadvertently captured on voicemail, California’s Democratic candidate for governor and his aides discussed the possibility of portraying his GOP opponent, Meg Whitman, as awhore.’’

You know, there may be a lot of women who disagree with the way she ran eBay; however, that never goes over well with women.

That's one thing I've picked up over the years; there are a few choice terms they object to, and Jerry just dipped a shoe in one.

The conversation among Brown and his aides was picked up on a voicemail recording that Brown left for a police union official last month, apparently after Brown believed he had hung up.

Brown and his aides can be heard discussing the pressure that police unions put on him to follow Whitman in pledging not to reduce their pensions.

“Do we want to put an ad out? . . . That I have been warned if I crack down on pensions, I will be — that they’ll go to Whitman, and that’s where they’ll go because they know Whitman will give ‘em, will cut them a deal, but I won’t,’’ Brown said.

At that point, someone — it is not clear whether it was Brown or, as his campaign says, another person — asked: “What about saying she’s a whore?’’

Brown can then be heard saying: “Well, I’m going to use that. It proves you’ve cut a secret deal to protect the pensions.’’

Whitman’s campaign said: “The use of the term ‘whore’ is an insult to both Meg Whitman and to the women of California. This is an appalling and unforgivable smear against Meg Whitman. At the very least Mr. Brown tacitly approved this despicable slur, and he himself may have used the term at least once on this recording.’’

One could almost say HATE SPEECH!

Brown’s campaign manager, Steven Glazer, acknowledged to the Los Angeles Times that “at times our language was salty. We apologize to Ms. Whitman and anyone who may have been offended.’’

 NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

Even the APOLOGY is CALLOUS and UNFEELING, ladies!

***********

A September Field Poll suggested that Whitman has erased the Democratic Party’s advantage among women, a rare feat for a Republican in California.

Yes, and THIS LATEST REMARK did NOT HELP!

And maybe you haven't noticed, but this blog loves the thought of Republican women taking seats in Congress and the statehouses.

It really puts the women's rights groups on the spot!

How come Democrats never get in really hot water for hate speech?

Shouldn't Brown have to at least resign as attorney general?

And you blew it, Jerry!

"Whitman, Brown clash over housekeeper during debate

The Republican candidate for governor of California, Meg Whitman, and her Democratic rival, Jerry Brown, traded barbs over immigration policy and Whitman’s illegal immigrant housekeeper during a heated debate that was aimed at California’s growing Latino population.

Both candidates hoped to score points with the crucial voting bloc during Saturday’s face-off at California State University Fresno, the first to air statewide on Spanish-language television. Whitman acknowledged early on that she cannot win the governor’s race without Latino votes.

That seems an odd admission when Latinos are supposed to be Democrats now.

Whitman had planned to use the debate to move on from a controversy that dominated headlines last week after it was revealed she had an illegal immigrant housekeeper for nine years.

Now we have NEW HEADLINES that are DOMINATING!

The billionaire former eBay chief executive, who has spent $119 million of her own money on the race, tried instead to focus on her campaign themes of creating jobs and improving the state’s public school system.

But with so much attention on issues related to immigration policy, Whitman was forced to explain her conservative positions while Brown had many opportunities to bring up the housekeeper....

I do not understand why Meg was on the defensive here; however, Brown BLEW IT!

And have you NOTICED the AGENDA-PUSHING CORPORATE MEDIA making the election about IMMIGRATION and GAYS AGAIN when WE CARE ABOUT WAR, TAXES, and TYRANNY?!?!

How LITTLE has CHANGED in AmeriKa!!!!

Oh, and ABOUT that LATINO VOTE on which the Democrats are depending?

"Hispanics may skip election, poll says

PHOENIX — Arizona’s controversial immigration law might not bring the protest vote that many Democrats had hoped would stem a Republican onslaught in races across the country.

They are going to LOSE HUGE across the country!

The DIVIDE-and-CONQUER ISSUES have NOT TAKEN HOLD with the voters

Although many voters are disillusioned with the political process, Latino voters are particularly dejected, and many will sit these elections out, according to voters, Latino organizations, political consultants, and candidates....

As will ALL the KIDS who VOTED Obama and Democrat down the line!

The other side in the immigration debate is suffering no such lack of enthusiasm.

That's why Meg being worried confused me.

Political analysts and candidates say the anti-establishment sentiment roiling the electorate, as well as widespread frustration over the country’s porous borders, seems to be helping candidates who favor tougher immigration rules.

Which means it would help Whitman, right?

“In every single race I’m looking at, candidates are being asked, ‘Would you sign an Arizona-like immigration law?’ ’’ said Jennifer Duffy, an editor for the nonpartisan Cook Political Report. “It’s now on the list of issues like a balanced-budget amendment and a tax cut. It’s part of the political lexicon, and it fires people up.’’

And it is a Republican advantage even though it is all a fooley.

The results of the poll, by the Pew Hispanic Center, suggest that the intense debate over Arizona’s law and the lack of congressional action on overhauling immigration may have turned off many Latinos....

So they are not going to be there, Democrats.

Yeah, that was another Democrat issue that turned into a dud.

And don't worry, Jerry; you are going to have plenty of company:

WASHINGTON — Republicans are well positioned to pick up a substantial number of governor’s seats in this year’s election....

Democrats hold 26 governorships and Republicans 24. But the balance appears likely to shift, perhaps markedly, with Republicans holding the upper hand in many of this year’s 37 races....

In Iowa, Michigan, and Pennsylvania — all states that have Democratic governors — polls suggest Republican candidates are pulling away from their opponents. The GOP is also increasing its investment in Democratic-leaning states such as Illinois, Massachusetts, and Oregon, seeing opportunities for pickups there as well.

Remember, that is a paper that told you Coakley over Brown by double-digits.

By rule of thumb, add 5 points to the Republican and take 5 away from the Democrat. Now you have an accurate poll of the state.

Yeah, that's how a lot of us are feeling.

Like it or not, this state is governed a lot better when you have a Republican checking our one-party lootislature.

Democrats are in tough fights in Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin, hoping to block a Republican sweep of the Midwest. Democrats are intensifying efforts in California, Florida, and Georgia, all tossup races in states that have Republican governors.

I think you can put California in the leaning-Republican column soon.

Much of the focus has been on Republican efforts to win control of Congress, but a wave of Republican victories in the governor’s races could have just as significant, and potentially longer-lasting, implications....

Having Republicans in office in big battleground states also could complicate President Obama’s reelection campaign, which could find it harder to hang on to crucial swing states....

Oh, we have issues with him anyway.

That's why American voters are going to take it out on his party.

"N.Y.’s Paladino reaffirms his criticism of gay pride parades

WASHINGTON — Carl Paladino, the volatile GOP candidate for governor of New York, refused to step back yesterday from his comments disparaging gays over the weekend, saying that children should not attend gay pride parades because they featured men in bikinis “grinding at each other and doing these gyrations.’’

“I don’t think that’s proper; I think it’s disgusting,’’ Paladino told NBC’s “Today.’’
