Recently discovered a huge honey bees nest on the property under a clump of ground where a tree had fallen last year. It was an unintentional discovery, but man did those things ever come out angry! Protecting their home they were. After a few stings and scares, the hole was marked for safety's sake. Then, late that night/early the next morning a black-and-white creature with an unusual odor as a defense mechanism had its snout buried deep in the hole. It didn't know I was there, and it didn't care. The thing was feasting. Anyhow, when I checked the hole in the day a massive pit was dug out! A few bees were still fluttering around, but the nest had been opened wide. Amazingly, the next night TWO SKUNKS were dining at the hole -- and GOT INTO a FIGHT! The screeching was something I'd heard from the woods before, but was unsure of what it was. BUT that was NOT the ONLY GUEST! I swear to the Almighty that a RACOON was ON the ROOF!!! You could here it scuttling around the porch/garage area, and then -- when I shined a light up there -- a MASKED CREATURE was STARING BACK at ME!!! He must have used the drainpipes, but I've lived here a long time and I HAVE NEVER seen a RACOON on the ROOF!!
Now, I will note before then I had NOT SEEN VERY MANY BEES around this year.
I know it is only "anecdotal," but MSM (and Fed) use them, too, so why can't I?
"Proteins cited in bee colony collapses" by Associated Press | August 25, 2009
WASHINGTON - Researchers have a new clue to the collapse of honey bee colonies across the country: damage to the bees’ internal “factories’’ that produce proteins.
I'll bet the cause is anything but GMOs, watch.
Theories about the cause of bee colony collapse have included viruses, mites, pesticides, and fungi.
Yup. Please see: The Sounds of Spring in New England
The new study of sick bees disclosed fragments of ribosomal RNA in their gut, an indication of damage to the ribosomes, which make proteins that are necessary for life, according to a study in today’s issue of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
RNA, which is made from DNA, is central to protein production. The sick bees suffered an unusually high number of infections with viruses that attack the ribosome, the researchers from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the US Department of Agriculture reported.
“If your ribosome is compromised, then you can’t respond to pesticides, you can’t respond to fungal infections or bacteria or inadequate nutrition, because the ribosome is central to the survival of any organism. You need proteins to survive,’’ said May R. Berenbaum, the head of the department of entomology at Illinois, in a statement.
The researchers said the varroa mite, which was accidentally introduced to the United States in 1986, is a carrier of viruses that damage the ribosomes. The mite may act as a tipping factor leading to ribosome breakdown, the researchers said. The study was funded by the Department of Agriculture.
Yeah, we aren't really getting anywhere here, are we?

Did they seem to indicate pesticides were a problem?
"Herbicide levels in water spark public health debate" by Charles Duhigg, New York Times | August 23, 2009
For decades, farmers, lawn care workers, and professional green thumbs have relied on the weed killer atrazine to protect their crops and lawns
But atrazine often washes into water supplies and has become among the most common contaminants in American reservoirs and other sources of drinking water.
That can't be good -- unless it works on war-criminal weeds, that is!
Studies suggest that, even at concentrations meeting current federal standards, the chemical may be associated with birth defects, low birth weights, and menstrual problems.

And it is probably more; no wonder Americans are somnabulant as their world collapses around them.
Laboratory experiments suggest that when animals are exposed to brief doses of atrazine before birth, they may become more vulnerable to cancer.
An investigation by The New York Times has found that in some towns, atrazine concentrations in drinking water have spiked, sometimes for longer than a month. But the reports produced by local water systems for residents often fail to reflect those higher concentrations.
Where is anothet Erin Brockovich when you need her, huh?
The Natural Resources Defense Council, an advocacy group, is expected to release a report tomorrow saying that weak EPA regulation of atrazine poses environmental and health risks
Representatives of the Environmental Protection Agency and
Aren't those the same clowns who cleared that toxic spew of a pit, Ground Zero, for residents, businesses, amd America's hereoes (who are now getting sick and dying from respiratory illnesses)? Just checkin'.....
But the head of another government agency voiced apprehension. “We don’t really know what these chemicals do to fetuses or prepubescent childrenm,’’ said Dr. Linda S. Birnbaum, director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.
Or to ANYONE ELSE!
