"14 arrested after brawl at Lawrence club" by Michael Corcoran and Jack Nicas, Globe Correspondents | April 26, 2010
LAWRENCE — A nightclub party in Lawrence promising more than 600 guests and a
Close 'em all down.
The rumble occupied an estimated 27 Lawrence police officers — including a full complement of officers from two shifts — and resulted in 14 arrests and one injured police officer, Romero said. “The entire town was left unprotected during the incident,’’ he said. “We are very lucky there was not another emergency.’’
Police said the fight started just after 1 a.m. Saturday at Club Rio, located on 9 Appleton St., when a dispute between a few patrons quickly escalated into a massive fracas involving more than 100 customers.
“It happened very suddenly and soon there was chair-throwing, punches, and kicking, broken bottles, and several guys ganging up on one person,’’ Romero said.
“The major problem was that all 14 people we arrested were intoxicated. That is never a good thing.’’
Not unless you are surfing a sofa at home.
A Facebook page promoting the event said it had more than 600 confirmed guests, was sold out of tables, and had three limos and three party buses able to transport more than 150 people to the party.
Then WHY the CLASSLESS ROWDINESS?
Romero said the massive bar fight came at considerable expense to local taxpayers.
Yeah, they took advantage of you like a drunk.... oh, never mind.
“None of the 14 people who were arrested are from Lawrence and this is unfair to the people who live here. They are paying taxes and every officer on duty was working on this brawl,’’ he said.....

"Baby, 11 months, tests positive for cocaine
Police say an 11-month old baby from Peabody tested positive for cocaine after he was found in the back seat of a Jeep holding a spoon with a residue of the drug. The mother, Deborah Annese, was arrested Thursday morning on numerous drug charges, including driving under the influence of drugs. Police also said Annese, 40, was found Friday snorting cocaine she’d smuggled into lockup. Police say Annese was arrested in Salem after they received a call that a woman was using drugs with two children in the back seat (AP)."
I'm speechless.
