"Obama launches effort to get ’08 voters to the polls
WASHINGTON — Seeking to curtail expected widespread losses this fall, President Obama pleaded with supporters of his 2008 campaign yesterday to help elect Democrats as his aides intensified their focus on reenergizing his broad coalition of backers.
“I need your help once more,’’ the president said in an online video sent to millions of his supporters. “If you help us make sure that first-time voters in 2008 make their voices heard again in November, then together we will deliver on the promise of change, and hope, and prosperity for generations to come.’’
You abandon them for two years and now you are back with this mealy-mouth s***?
The video announcement of what Democrats are calling “Vote 2010’’ is part of a multipronged effort by the Democratic National Committee to reengage the legions of backers — including first-time voters, young people, blacks, Hispanics, and independents — who propelled Obama to victory in his groundbreaking campaign.
That may not be easy.
No.
It's incumbents out day (even thought the machines across the country will be rigged as to not reflect that), and all third parties regardless of ideology.
Congressional Democrats face a tough political environment, partly because of the economic recession and continued joblessness. Obama’s party worries about losing control of the House, and possibly the Senate. Republicans need to win 40 seats in the House and 10 in the Senate to seize control.
Or he could spin the politics the way Bill Clinton did after 1994, right?
Then he would be the "Democrapic Defender" in the White House.
Since Obama won the White House, voters of all political stripes have soured on the president and his party; his job performance rate hovers around 50 percent and support for Democrats in Congress is much lower.
Which means he is really at about 25%.
And DemocraPs? Done.
Had your chance and couldn't do it.
The growth of government and spending increases have disappointed some independent voters.
Yeah, and the NEVER-ENDING LIES and WARS, MSM?
Why you always leaving that out, agenda-pushing, war-promo.... oh, yeah. Gotcha!!
Parts of the Democratic base are frustrated with the pace at which the president has pushed proposals they support.
Yeah, I thought I saw them further back in the line.
And some Republicans who crossed over to vote for Obama are disillusioned.
Well, I didn't. I voted for RALPH NADER again.
He was the only one with the guts to say what needed to be said.
But I was still happy when Bush got the boot -- for about two months, then it was the same old administration with a different front man.
Even some of the most senior Democratic officials don’t expect that the coalition of voters who backed Obama will turn out in droves when he’s not on the ballot. They didn’t in three recent statewide races — in Virginia, New Jersey, and Massachusetts — even though Obama himself made the same appeal and campaigned in those states on behalf of Democrats. Republicans won all three races.
Of particular concern for Democrats are people who were first-time voters in 2008; they’re among the least likely to vote again....
Yeah, the kids thought they elected change and now see none of it, so who can blame them for Ipodding out?
So how much they going to spend?
"Democrats to pour $20m into campaigns
WASHINGTON — Bracing for potential losses in congressional and gubernatorial elections, national Democrats plan to spend $20 million to defend their candidates in November’s contests.
That's it?
Too busy partying with the rest, huh?
Democratic officials discussed the campaign push, a collaboration between top White House and congressional Democrats, yesterday only on the condition of anonymity because no announcements were ready. They said the cash would be split among the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee — panels that do much of the fund-raising, spending, and candidate recruitment.
With the public view of Democrats falling, senior party officials recognize the challenges they face to maintain majorities in the House and Senate.
Because YOU DID NOT DO WHAT WE WANTED YOU TO DO!!
I voted for you guys in 2006!
I thought, all right, a check on Bush and the winding down of the wars. Got none of it, and in fact, things got worse with each turn.
And then, after giving them the filibuster-proof fooley and executive, we can't even get a decent single-payer health system like the rest of the industrialized world?
Forget ending the wars for a minute; we couldn't even get what 80% of Americans want on a domestic issue.
And then the filibuster seemed not to matter at all after a year of coverage and politics and elections, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Officials also said the Democrats’ drive would include an aggressive program with noncash resources, such as campaign workers. Some officials estimated that effort would be worth up to $30 million.
How many machines you going to rig?
Candidates cherish cash because it allows them to pay for polls and ads.
And you, voter?
Unless shitting all over your head is cherishing you, you out of luck.
Party organizations prefer noncash help to candidates because it allows them to have a more direct hand in how campaigns are managed.
But you can't run a campaign on nothing, unless you demand democracy in a place like Haiti, for instance, where the popularly-elected leader must then be run out by coup -- twice.
The number is in striking contrast to the DNC spending in 2006, the last midterm election cycle. Then-DNC chairman Howard Dean gave less than $2 million directly to the campaign committees, and instead sent almost $21 million to build party organizations in all 50 states.
And he did pretty good, too.
Of course, Democrats shun him for it.
Came right after he said something that made someone else say something, and wow that looked like guilt to me.
White House and party officials met Thursday night in Washington to discuss the financial plans for November, while President Obama was raising about $2.5 million for the DNC at two Miami events.
That's what a president's job is; what did you think it was, policy?
He's taking order on that one.
At one of the fund-raisers, DNC chairman Tim Kaine delivered a sobering assessment of the party’s chances in November, noting that the party in power traditionally sustains losses in the midterm elections.
“We sort of have to assume that we’re running into a headwind,’’ said Kaine, adding that Democrats were accustomed to being underdogs.
Isn't that another word for losers?

You would have been way better off, Massachusetts.
NEW YORK — Among the many reverberations of President Obama’s election, here is one he probably never anticipated: at least 32 African-Americans are running for Congress this year as Republicans, the biggest surge since Reconstruction, according to party officials....
Black Republicans are running across the country — from Florida to Phoenix....
They credit two factors: dissatisfaction with the Obama administration, and the proof, as provided by Obama, that blacks can get elected.
“I ran in 2008 and raised half a million dollars, and the state party didn’t support me and the national party didn’t support me,’’ said Allen West, who is running for Congress in Florida and is one of about five black candidates the party believes could win....

Then again, what inspires more than prayer?
"Prayer day is caught in a legal storm; Religious groups, atheists lobbying after recent ruling" by Todd Richmond, Associated Press | April 24, 2010
Everything in this country always has to end up in court.
You do NOT FEEL FREE, folks!
MADISON, Wis. — To pray or not to pray?
Depends on what you are asking.
That’s the issue government leaders across the country are facing after a federal judge ruled that the National Day of Prayer set for May 6 was unconstitutional.
The ruling can’t take effect until all appeals are exhausted, but that is not stopping atheists and prayer advocates from firing off letters, e-mails, and even planning to put up billboards to convince state and local leaders across the country to see things their way.
God could be all around them and they would still plow on through without seeing.
Nothing is changing in Topeka, Kan., says Mayor Bill Bunten.
Well, that is nothing new in AmeriKa.
“Some of these judges have lost their way,’’ Bunten said. “Every day is a day of prayer in most Kansas lives, whether they are Christian or Muslim or Jewish or whatever, and to say that a prayer day is illegal is just ridiculous.’’
Please end the wars, God.
The ruling raised a furor among religious advocacy groups, who say the day has become an American tradition.
If it was a tradition to jump from the nearest bridge would you go along with that, too?
And the announcement this week by President Obama’s administration that it would appeal the decision galvanized atheists, who are trying to persuade officials not to attend local events.
Another group ticked off at him? Over this?
Their campaigns illustrate the persistent tensions over any combination of religion and government.
Actually, when you read the amendment it says government shall neither promote or restrict religion. It doesn't say no religion. I heard Thom Hartmann barking about this in the car yesterday and he was all bothered by Obama. I laughed.
Congress established a national prayer day in 1952 and in 1988 set the first Thursday in May as the official day for presidents to issue proclamations asking Americans to pray. Many state and local officials follow suit on that day.
So what have the courts said?
Two years ago, the Madison-based Freedom From Religion Foundation sued the federal government, alleging the day violated the separation of church and state.
They don't have anything better to look after -- like innocent Muslims locked and tortured in a secret black site hole?
US District Judge Barbara Crabb ruled April 15 that the day amounts to a call to religious action....
Please, God, end the wars is a relig.... yeah, I guess we can't have any of that kind of talk around here.

Or other Muslim-hating fanatics:
"Obama meets and prays with Graham" by Associated Press | April 26, 2010
MONTREAT, N.C. — President Obama made a pilgrimage yesterday to Billy Graham’s mountainside home, concluding his North Carolina vacation with his first meeting with the ailing evangelist who has counseled commanders in chief since Dwight Eisenhower.
Oh, fer crying out loud!
The 48-year-old president made the short drive to Montreat from Asheville, where he spent the weekend, to see the 91-year-old Graham and son Franklin, also an evangelist.
Oh, he met with the father and the son, 'eh?
That might be cause for some concern in certain quarters.
I'm inspired insofar as it sheds another dimension that I had never considered during those times.
During the visit, which lasted about 30 minutes and included aides and advisers to both men, Obama had a private prayer and conversation with Billy Graham. “He is extraordinarily gratified that he took the time to meet with him,’’ White House spokesman Bill Burton said....
A definite cause for concern in certain quarters.
Please, please, please be careful Mr. President.
Please surround yourself with only the most loyal and trusted people.
