Massachusetts Police Academy

No wonder the cops around here are horrible.

"Police training programs lag badly; Curriculum is outdated, facilities subpar, study finds" by Milton J. Valencia, Globe Staff | August 7, 2010

Massachusetts spends far less than other states on training for police officers, committing less money to its police academies than it did 20 years ago, according to a state legislative report that says the result is a fractured system with an outdated curriculum that fails to keep officers abreast of the latest trends in law enforcement.

That's what happens when all your tax loot is tossed at corporations and into public servant pensions, health plans, and perks.

Even academy instructors are falling behind on key topics like Taser and pepper spray use, firearms use, defensive tactics, and first aid, says a draft report by the Legislature’s Municipal Police Training Commission.

That explains the frequency and brutality of use.

“There are a number of police officers, because of the lack of money departments have, they’re not getting any [specialized] training at all,’’ said Kenneth Scanzio, legislative director and vice president of the Massachusetts Coalition of Police and a member of the commission....

After taxes were raised?

WTF?

"Officer in SUV sideswipes a flagger; Dedham accident is called minor" by Maria Cramer, Globe Staff | August 7, 2010

DEDHAM — An off-duty Boston police officer driving through a construction site struck a civilian flagger yesterday morning, in what police described as an accident in a police report....

Yeah, right.

Boston police spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll said Dedham police do not plan to file charges....

They NEVER DO against one of their own!

Police across the state have expressed fury at Governor Deval Patrick’s administration for replacing them with civilian flaggers on some construction projects, although that appears to be unrelated to yesterday’s incident.

So everyone is saying.

State officials have said that using flaggers saves money because officials can control the number of hours civilians work and the number of civilians hired for a job. Police have countered that the flaggers’ hourly rates can exceed those of officers.

Since the law was changed in 2008, police have protested at some construction sites, even hurling insults at flaggers.

Flaggers took their OT away, 'eh?

The striking of the flagger, however, apparently had no connection to the conflict, according to witnesses at the construction site and police....

Okay, whatever.

So the academy doesn't teach them how to drive?
