ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - A missile attack from a remotely piloted US aircraft is believed to have killed a senior member of Al Qaeda in South Waziristan, a former member of a militant group in the region said.
The operative, Khalid Habib, an Egyptian who was chief of operations in Pakistan's tribal region, was described by the CIA as the fourth-ranking person in the Qaeda hierarchy. The attack Thursday, on the village of Taparghai, killed four people, according to initial reports. A Pakistani intelligence official declined yesterday to confirm the death of Habib.
This claim is all to get the focus OFF the KILLING of PEOPLE!!!
A US official involved in the campaign against Al Qaeda in Pakistan's tribal areas said he could not confirm the report that Habib had died. It often takes US officials some time to determine the success or failure of attacks by remotely piloted aircraft in the rugged and remote terrain of the tribal areas.

As it continued its battle against insurgents in the northwestern Swat Valley, the Pakistani military said it killed about 60 Islamist militants in airstrikes yesterday, Reuters reported. Two militant training camps were also destroyed, said Major Nasir Ali, the military spokesman in the region.
