UMass Fee F***

Before reading the fee hikes, consider:

"UMass employees top list of highest-paid state workers; Patrick ranked 1,076th in tally" by Andrea Estes, Globe Staff | February 11, 2009

More than 175 state employees were paid $200,000 or more last year, including more than 150 University of Massachusetts administrators and professors, 13 of whom made $400,000 or more, according to a payroll report released yesterday.

The state's top earner was Derek Lovley, associate dean of UMass-Amherst's College of Natural Resources and the Environment. Lovley, a specialist on biofuels, made $613,000, according to data made public yesterday by the state's Office of the Comptroller. He was followed by UMass Medical School Chancellor Michael F. Collins, who made $609,000.

Yes, the ENVIRO-FRAUDSTERS ARE COSTING YOU in SO MANY WAYS!!

LIES are HARMFUL no matter WHAT THEY ARE!!!

Five other UMass administrators were paid between $459,000 and $549,000, followed by UMass president Jack Wilson, who received $436,000.

Why five unmentioned?

Also among the top earners was James Julian, UMass executive vice president and former chief of staff to former Senate president William M. Bulger. Julian joined Bulger when Bulger became the school's president in early 1996. Also among the state's highest moneymakers were the head basketball coach at UMass, Derek Kellogg, who made $260,000, and the school's head football coach, Donald A. Brown, who made $233,000.

Is that REALLY the BEST USE of the UNIVERSITY'S MONEY!!!

I'LL DO the JOB for A LOT LESS!!!!!

And the BASKETBALL TEAM AIN'T WORTH IT!! They stink!

Brown left to take a coaching job with the University of Maryland. The university's athletic director, Dana Skinner, made $192,000, while the men's head ice hockey coach, Blaise MacDonald, was paid $178,000.

Wow! That's a lot for HOCKEY!!!

See
Pigs at the State Trough for more.

That's why they TUCKED YOU a FEE INCREASE LATE UPON a FRIDAY (hoping you and the paper wouldn't notice; paper still hides it on page B2):

"UMass trustees back 15-percent fee hike; Measure boosts costs to $11,000; full board to vote" by Peter Schworm, Globe Staff | February 21, 2009

Trustees at the University of Massachusetts backed a $1,500 increase in student fees yesterday, a 15 percent increase that would bring annual tuition and fee costs for in-state undergraduates to an average of $11,000....

$11,000 dollars for that s*** ejerkashen?

University officials said funding from the recently approved federal stimulus package could reduce or eliminate the fee hike....

"This increase is designed to preserve academic quality and to ensure stability, but if federal dollars can be substituted for student dollars, we will eagerly rebate some or all of this increase," said UMass system president Jack M. Wilson.

One of the PIGS!

And "the increase would generate about $68 million in revenue, $20 million of which would go to bolster financial aid"

WTF? Why ain't ALL OF IT going to AID? Where is the OTHER $48 MILLION going?

Trustees had previously postponed a vote on the fee increase, voicing reservations about its impact on families hit hard by the recession. While supporting the increase yesterday, they also voted to freeze most voluntary student fees. University officials said the increase is needed to tackle a $100 million budget deficit brought on by heavy losses in state subsidies.....

Which, at $96 million.... ranks among the country's least generous"

So much for Massachusetts and its alleged reputation on ejerkashen.

************

The five-campus system is also reducing spending by about $50 million, university officials said. Wilson said eliminating the budget deficit entirely through spending cuts would force extensive layoffs and enrollment reductions.

How about YOU TAKING A CUT, Jack?!!!

Wilson also announced a salary freeze for administrators earning $120,000 and above.

What, NO CUT?

The freeze, which will affect 315 administrators, begins immediately and will run until the end of the 2010 fiscal year. Many highly compensated employees had already seen their wages frozen this year and had taken two-week furloughs with no pay.

Yeah, it'll be HARD living off $450K a YEAR!!

Wilson said further layoffs and furloughs may be necessary in the coming months.

But WE GOT TRILLIONS for WARS, BANKS, CORPORATE LOOTERS, POLITICIANS and their PARTYING, etc, etc.
