TA Associates, a Boston private equity firm, is raising a $3.5 billion buyout fund, its 11th fund, according to two financial executives who know the details of the offering. It's one of the few large fund-raising efforts amid a difficult market environment, according to a pension executive who is reviewing the fund. TA last raised a fund for US investors in 2006; the size of that portfolio also was $3.5 billion.
