Governor Frustrates Gays

:-)

"Governor says he'll veto same-sex marriage

MONTPELIER, Vt. --Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas says he will veto a gay marriage bill if it passes the Legislature. Douglas, a Republican, had said previously he was against same-sex marriage and that lawmakers shouldn't have spent their time on it this session, given the economy and the state's multi-million dollars budget deficits.

A bill that would replace the state's first-in-the-nation civil unions law with one that allows gay and lesbian couples to marry passed the state Senate on Tuesday. The House is now considering similar legislation.
