A sex offender who allegedly broke into a Rockland home just before dawn Thursday and was sitting with two young sisters was arrested after the older girl made an excuse to leave the room and went to her father for help.

John Gordon, 22, of Rockland, a registered Level 2 sex offender, who lives less than a third of a mile from the sisters’ home, was arraigned later that day at Hingham District Court, authorities said.

Police responded at 4:18 a.m. on Thursday to a report of an intruder at the home, where they found Gordon engaged in a physical fight with the father of the 6- and 12-year-old girls, said Sergeant James Simpson of the Rockland police.

Gordon allegedly entered the 12-year-old’s room on the basement level through a rear screen door. It was unclear whether the door was left unlocked or Gordon forced his way in. Police said they did not believe he had any relationship with the family.

Gordon allegedly sat on the bed, where the 6-year-old was sleeping, spoke to the 12-year-old, and asked her age before she said she had to use the bathroom and instead went upstairs to alert her father, Simpson said....

Gordon, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, fell asleep on the bed where the 6-year-old was lying, Simpson said....

Time to try prohibition again.

Police arrived and used a Taser while briefly struggling to arrest Gordon, who told police he thought he had entered his grandparents’ home, Simpson said.

Gordon pleaded not guilty to breaking and entering in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony, assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon — a sneaker, which he used to kick the father — and resisting arrest, authorities said....
