Patsy Pimentel Upstages Protests

I hope you can understand why I get so sick of reading the paper.

"New York officials describe bomb plot" November 21, 2011|By Joseph Goldstein, New York Times

NEW YORK - Authorities have arrested a man who law enforcement officials believe was planning to build and detonate a bomb in New York that would target government workers, returning military personnel, and elected officials, two people briefed on the case said yesterday.

Cyrus R. Vance Jr., the Manhattan district attorney, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, and Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly of the New York Police Department announced the charges against the man at a news conference last night.

The man was arrested within the last 24 hours.

The defendant, identified as Jose Pimentel, 27, had bought bomb-making materials and “began to build them,’’ said one person briefed on the case, who added that the police department had the man under surveillance for about a year.

“The police department basically had an informant with this guy,’’ said a second law enforcement official familiar with the investigation. “The guy is sort of giving to the informant all of these materials on bomb building and talking about building a bomb and supporting the mujahideen by targeting … he’s kind of all over the place; sometimes it’s targeting servicemen and women returning from Afghanistan, sometimes it’s the police, sometimes it’s build it and test it, but it’s all over the place.

“He was in the process of building three pipe bombs,’’ the law enforcement official said. “We weren’t going to wait around to figure out what he wanted do with his bombs. He was in Harlem about an hour from actually assembling the bombs,’’ but had all the “unassembled components ready to go.’’

Holes were drilled into pipes, sulfur was scraped off matches, nails were ready to be used as shrapnel, and wires were used to fashion an ignition device, the official said. The person briefed on the case described it as a “lone-wolf scenario’’ and said that Pimentel had been considering a possible array of targets that included government employees and lawmakers.

Pimentel, also known as Muhammad Yusuf, will face charges that include criminal possession of a weapon in the first degree as a crime of terrorism, which is considered an A-1 violent felony.

He changed his name, huh?

"New York bomb plot suspect left many clues on Internet; In posts, called bases, airports valid targets" by James Barron and Joseph Goldstein New York Times / November 22, 2011

The man accused of plotting to build and set off bombs in New York left a trail of articles and links online that the authorities had followed as they say he went from thought toward action, a step they say he had taken only in the last few weeks.

The suspect, Jose Pimentel, praised Osama bin Laden in posts on his blog, and the New York police commissioner, Raymond W. Kelly, said he had talked about changing his name to “Osama Hussein’’ to “celebrate’’ another of his heroes, Saddam Hussein.

Then HE IS AN IDIOT because those guys were MORTAL ENEMIES!

"Suspect in N.Y. bomb plot left trail online" by James Barron and Joseph Goldstein
New York Times

NEW YORK - The man accused of plotting to build and set off bombs in New York left a trail of articles and links online that authorities had followed as they say he went from thought toward action, a step they say he had taken only in the past few weeks.

The suspect, Jose Pimentel, praised Osama bin Laden in posts on his blog, and the New York police commissioner, Raymond Kelly, said he had talked about changing his name to "Osama Hussein" to "celebrate" another of his heroes, Saddam Hussein.

On the blog, Pimentel tried to justify the Sept. 11 attacks....

Nothing can justify that false-flag, intelligence agency inside job.

He posted a photograph of Anwar al-Awlaki, the U.S.-born cleric who became a strident voice for radical Islam and a top al-Qaida propagandist....

The same one that had lunch at the Pentagon?

The "CIA-Duh" propagandist who is again dead?

Pimentel, a convert to Islam who was also known as Muhammad Yusuf, cited articles from Inspire, al-Qaida's online magazine. One article, with the headline "Make a Bomb in the Kitchen of Your Mom," was said to have been used by Pimentel in constructing his pipe bombs using parts the police say he bought at a Home Depot in the Bronx, among other places....

Pimentel, 27, had been under police surveillance for more than two years....

First it was about a year, now more than two.  Is that how long it took to wind up the patsy?

Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Kelly said, however, that Pimentel was not part of a conspiracy, had no known contacts abroad and, in the mayor's words, "appears to be a total lone wolf."

Translation: This is ALL BULLS***!!!

A native of the Dominican Republic and a naturalized U.S. citizen, Pimentel had spent much of his life in Manhattan, except for five years in Schenectady, N.Y., the authorities said. While upstate, his extremist remarks "made even some like-minded friends nervous," Kelly said.

Pimentel spoke about traveling to Yemen "for training before returning to New York to become a martyr in the name of jihad," Kelly said. While Kelly noted that Pimentel never went to Yemen, at one point Pimentel had emailed al-Awlaki in an attempt to open a line of communication. The cleric did not respond, the authorities said.

The CIA asset didn't want to have anything to do with him, huh?

The intelligence division of the New York police routinely asks smaller departments outside the city for help in identifying would-be terrorists, and it was through this network that the New York police learned of Pimentel in May 2009, Kelly said....

Pffft!

Pimentel's mother, Carmen Sosa, apologized to the city - "I'm sorry about my son," she said at one point as she faced reporters in the hallway of the apartment building. She also thanked the police.

But she said, in Spanish, "My son is not a terrorist." She added, in English, "My son was like a normal boy, like a normal guy" who had never expressed animosity toward the United States.

More:

"Federal authorities passed on the case — with one source telling TPM on Sunday night that the FBI passed several times, and an official telling the Associated Press on Monday that Pimentel “didn’t have the predisposition or the ability to do anything on his own.” [The FBI] believe Pimentel lacked the capability — financial and otherwise — to pull off a plot and wouldn’t have done it had it not been for the NYPD Intelligence Division’s cooperating source....
