Climate change is threatening many charismatic species, but if you've ever seen the Academy Award winning documentary "March of the Penguins," the latest research out of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is bound to make you pause.
Emperor penguins - those regal anthropomorphized Antarctic animals - may be heading for extinction. A new paper in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences says that the world's largest penguins could suffer serious population declines through at least part of their range before the end of the century. The paper, coauthored by five researchers and led by woods Hole biologists Stephanie Jenouvrier and Hal Caswell, used mathematical models to predict the effect of climate change on penguins.
