"Karzai lead widens in Afghan race; Bulk of votes yet untallied; runoff likely" by James Rupert, Bloomberg News | August 27, 2009

KABUL - Hamid Karzai widened his lead in Afghanistan’s presidential vote, the Independent Election Commission said yesterday.

The incumbent president had 42 percent of ballots counted, compared with 33 percent for Abdullah Abdullah, his former foreign minister, chief electoral officer Daoud Ali Najafi told reporters in Kabul....

The returns suggested a higher turnout....

So the BALLOT BOXES were STUFFED by Karzai's crew!!!!

Abdullah alleges that Karzai’s campaign tried to steal the election, which the president’s team denies. In the garden of his home, Abdullah showed reporters a video of men stuffing ballot boxes and a sheaf of voting papers marked for Karzai that he said his supporters had recovered from an operation by the president’s campaign.

Independent election monitoring teams from the Washington-based National Democratic Institute and the Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan say opportunities for fraud were increased in last week’s vote because Taliban influence over many rural areas kept independent observers, as well as voters, away from polling places....

Over eight years, Karzai and his international backers, led by the United States, have failed to keep Afghanistan’s war from spreading or to improve the lives of most of its people. Measured by income, life expectancy, and literacy, Afghanistan is the world’s fifth-poorest country, according to a 2007 report by the Afghan government and the United Nations.

That's why the Taliban is "winning."

Abdullah says he has faith in the neutrality of the five-member Electoral Complaints Commission, which has three people appointed by the office of the UN secretary-general....

Yeah, they have no interest there.
