NEW YORK - The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp..... may need to levy special fees on the banking industry through 2013 to raise the agency’s reserve fund to a level mandated by law.

Fox-Pitt Kelton Cochran Coronia Waller analysts said as much as $45 billion may have to be raised in the next four years....

The high number of bank failures since January forced the FDIC to levy an emergency fee of $5.6 billion this year, on top of the annual charges paid by banks. The FDIC has said it expects another special fee this year....
