Sunday Globe Special: Quaids in Canada

Isn't there an election up there soon?

Globe hasn't even given me its two cents on that matter.

"Randy Quaid arrested in Vt. trying to cross Canadian border" Associated Press  October 10, 2015

HIGHGATE, Vt. — Actor Randy Quaid was taken into custody Friday night while trying to cross into the United States from Canada, Vermont State Police said.

The actor was detained by troopers at the Highgate Springs port of entry days after Canadian officials said he would be deported. Quaid is wanted in Santa Barbara, Calif., to face felony vandalism charges filed in 2010 after he and his wife, Evi, were found squatting in a guesthouse of a home they previously owned.

The pair skipped several court appearances and went to Canada, where Evi Quaid was granted citizenship. Randy Quaid’s bid to gain permanent residency was denied.

The 65-year-old actor said from a detention center in Laval, Quebec, on Wednesday that he would like to resolve his legal issues in California and ‘‘move on with my life.’’

Like me moving on from this post?

US Customs agents detained the Quaids at the Vermont port of entry at about 8 p.m. Friday after determining they were fugitives from justice and subject to extradition, State Police said. They were taken into custody by troopers, and a judge set bail at $500,000 each. They are expected to be arraigned in Vermont on Monday, a county prosecutor said.

Randy Quaid’s bid for permanent residency in Canada was denied in 2012, and it can take years for deportation to occur. He was arrested in Montreal in May after becoming the subject of a nationwide arrest warrant when he stopped checking in with border authorities. He apologized and was released, with the requirement to check in every two weeks.

The actor and his wife left the United States in 2010, saying they were victims of persecution. Quaid said he was being hunted by ‘‘Hollywood star-whackers’’ who killed his friends David Carradine and Heath Ledger.

Okay, he's a loony conspiracy nut and likely insane.... except Carradine's alleged suicide was some awkward position inside a closet and Ledger's was allegedly a drug overdose.

Years ago I never would have thought such things; however, knowing now that Hollywood is filled with pedophilia, I do wonder what Quaid and others might know. You make of it what you will, but there is more than heaven and earth in this world.

The couple’s legal problems in California stem from a 2010 arrest when they were charged with trespassing and causing more than $5,000 in damage to the guesthouse of a home they once owned. They were allegedly squatting in it when they were arrested. Two days before they were charged, they traveled to Vancouver, British Columbia.

They should have tried the New Hampshire side.

Look, I like some of his roles but none of his films are on my list.

Haven't had time to read it yet, but the Globe did follow up. Election Monday. That's tomorrow.

Plurality, not popularity, paramount in Canadian elections

It's true. Canada is looking more like Israel all the time.
