Local Lingerings

Sort of like how a soft, slow, airy fart will linger in the room for an interminable amount of time, folks.

So SAD that my SHIT POOT LOCAL outdoes
New England's Newspaper!

"LONDON (AP) — London police said they arrested three men Saturday on suspicion of terror links. Two of the arrests were made in a city square where the publisher of a forthcoming book about the Prophet Muhammad has its office. The arrests were intelligence-led, the Metropolitan Police said, indicating that there was no suggestion that an incident was imminent.""

I
told you, readers!

"WASHINGTON -- Last March, a consultant to Freddie Mac arranged a meeting between the top economist in John McCain's campaign and Hollis S. McLoughlin, a prominent Republican and top executive at the failing housing giant that is central to the nation's credit crisis.

The scheduled meeting with McCain economic adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin never took place because a number of Freddie Mac executives objected that it would have been inappropriate, according to three people familiar with the episode.

The executives pointed out to McLoughlin that there was no such outreach to the campaigns of Democratic candidates, said the three people, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The consultant who arranged the meeting, Harry Clark, is the founder of a Washington lobbying firm.

Out of a special account that McLoughlin controls, the Freddie Mac executive has been paying Clark more than $10,000 a month. McLoughlin has been using the same account to pay $15,000 a month to the lobbying firm of Rick Davis, McCain's campaign manager, according to the three people. The payments have been made despite a scaling back of Freddie Mac's government relations budget....

Clark is the managing partner of Stanwich Group LLC, which includes Freddie Mac on its list of clients who it advises on public policy and other strategic issues. Clark retired in 2001 as managing partner of a Washington lobbying firm that he founded, Clark & Weinstock, which also lobbied on behalf of Freddie Mac.

Need I say Jewish $$$?

Starting in late 2005 or early 2006, Freddie Mac began paying Davis's lobbying firm $15,000 a month. The payments continued until the government takeover of Freddie Mac this month."

And you wanna talk WAR LOOT!!!?

"HARTFORD, Conn. - Connecticut's defense industry would receive $19.2 billion under the defense bill Congress sent to President Bush on Saturday, Sens. Christopher Dodd and Joe Lieberman said.

Dodd, D-Conn., and Lieberman, I-Conn., said the defense spending would give Connecticut's economy a boost and help ensure that members of the military have the resources and support they need to successfully perform their missions. The legislation also includes money for disaster relief and other domestic priorities, including more than $95.5 million in heating aid for low-income families in Connecticut.

Yup, BILLIONS for WARS and MILLIONS for POOR PEOPLE!!!!

Like SPIT in the HAND!!!

"I'm always proud when Connecticut's workers are entrusted with providing our military with the tools and resources they need to keep our country secure," Dodd said in a statement Saturday. "Connecticut is on the cutting-edge of the research, development and production of many critically important products employed by our Armed Forces, whether in the air, on land or undersea," Dodd said.

And when that WAR-PROFITEER KICKBACK comes in the form of a "campaign contribution," 'eh, Dodd?!!!

The defense bill includes:

- $6.8 billion for East Hartford-based Pratt & Whitney for the Joint Strike Fighter. The jet-engine maker would also receive $2.9 billion for the FF-22 Raptor military jet and $871 million for engines for C-17 Globemaster cargo plane.

- $3.5 billion for Groton-based Electric Boat for another Virginia Class submarine.

- $1.26 billion for Stratford-based Sikorsky Aircraft for the purchase and research on Naval Hawk helicopters. Sikorsky would also get $927 million for the purchase of Black Hawk helicopters.

- $151 million for West Hartford-based Colt Defense for the purchase of nearly 89,000 M4 Carbine rifles."

And be it FAR FROM the GLOBE to cover THIS STORY from its PARENT!!!!!!!!

"This question is not the answer Vote NO on Question 1."

"Massachusetts Proposal Would Repeal Income Tax

GRAFTON, Mass. — Given the opportunity to get out of paying state income tax, who wouldn’t jump at the chance?

Certainly Ruth Gregoire would. Ms. Gregoire, 71, a retired employee of a fire sprinkler company, dipped into chocolate ice cream at Swirls and Scoops and pronounced the no-tax idea “very nice.”

Lakis Theoharis, 56, the owner of the nearby Pepperoni Express, said: “I’m for the repeal of the tax. To me, the smaller the government, the better for the citizens.”

And Rich Masterson, 39, a trucking company supervisor, said, “I would love to see that!”

Well, that is FOUR (counting me)!!!!

That view is exactly what most state and local officials in Massachusetts are afraid of. Amid the whirlwind presidential election, Massachusetts has a ballot contest of its own this November that could drastically alter — some would say cripple — state government.

See below for debunking of that idea.

At issue is Question 1, which would eliminate the state income tax. It would save the average taxpayer about $3,600 a year. Annual revenue from the tax is about $12.5 billion, roughly 45 percent of the state’s budget of about $28 billion.

“These are tough times for everyone as it is, and if Question 1 passes, things will become exponentially more difficult,” said Leslie A. Kirwan, the Massachusetts secretary of administration and finance.

Ms. Kirwan added that because some state programs cannot legally be cut, others would face cuts of 60 percent or more. The loss of billions of dollars from Question 1, she said, would devastate state services. Gov. Deval Patrick, a Democrat, has called the ballot measure “just a dumb idea.”

Yeah, thanks for the DISRESPECT, you ELITE, MONEY-WASTING LOOTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course, "flushing . . . millions of dollars away supporting a highly profitable industry" when it comes to $300 million in taxpayer dollars for Hollywood is o.k., even as the price of a school lunch rises; paying $13 million for a computer software system that could have cost less than $3 million is all right because the winner was a close friend of the House speaker, even as my poorer-than-dirt district "has been struggling to close a $2 million budget gap."; the lottery shellling out "millions of dollars" for sports tickets for "lottery officials, their family members, and friends" is fine, even as schools are closing; making interest payments to banks to the tune of "a staggering $22 billion" for the Big Pit, as we call it around here, is required, even as bridges are neglected across the state; and again, paying off banks like UBS, who can "demand repayment of an additional $2 million a month beginning in January" while also receiving a "$179 million payment," while the state pension fund loses $1 billion dollars -- which still didn't stop the executive director from carving himself a nice "$64,000 bonus on top of his $322,000 annual salary."

Oh, and did I not mention the $1 BILLION dollar giveaway to the pharmaceutical corporations, even though "it's never been easy to turn a profit in biotech?" Flush that money away, too, taxpayer. Of course, the war looters were next in line for a handout. And should the state be appropriating money for a "multimillion-dollar reconstruction" of golf courses?

All this as the pro-tax looters of state government and media cry bloody murder over the possible repeal of the state income tax.

WE AIN'T SO DUMB, guv!!!!!!!

And elected leaders across the state are worried.

YOU would be to if your TAXPAYER TEET was about to DRY UP!!!!

Fucking LYING LOOTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“The knee-jerk reaction would be, ‘That’s a great idea because it means more money for me,’ ” said Brook Padgett, chairman of the Board of Selectmen in Grafton, a town of about 17,000 near Worcester, which he said would lose 25 percent of its budget because of state cuts. “It would affect everybody — schools, police, municipal services, snow plowing. I couldn’t begin to tell you what we would do.”

Yup, EVERYTHING except the TAXPAYER GIVEAWAYS to the WELL-CONNECTED of CORPORATE!!!

And they DON'T DO THAT SHIT NOW!

Still, even before the anti-repeal campaign has begun in earnest in Massachusetts, there are many voters who think Question 1 is a bad idea.

Fuck your AGENDA-PUSHING GARBAGE, NYT!!!!

One poll, conducted by 7News/Suffolk University, found 36 percent in favor of eliminating the tax and 50 percent opposed. Another poll, conducted by WBZ-TV, was closer: 45 percent favored scrapping the tax, 47 percent wanted to keep it.

Like I'm gonna believe ANY NYT report on a POLL!!!! HA!

“If it passes, you’re looking at least double or triple whatever your property taxes are now,” said Mike Kozlowski, who owns a garden store in Worcester.

Can you FEEL the FEAR, Mass. resident!!!

In Grafton, where voters were evenly divided on repeal in 2002, people like Henry Cyr, 63, a retired Air Force officer, said, “The trauma to our financial system would just be too great.”

Yeah, BANKS and CORPORTIONS would have the TAXPAYER TROUGH TAKEN AWAY!!! Nothing like FUCKING YOURSELF in the ASS, Mass. reident!!!

To hell with you guys then!!!!!!

And Marcia LeBlanc, 66, a school bus driver, said: “I don’t think it’s a good idea. How are they going to pay for state services?

See my commentary above, dumb-dumb!

State Representative George Peterson of Grafton, a Republican who voted for repeal in 2002, declined to say how he would vote this time. “If we lose $12.5 billion, can I build a responsible budget with that loss in revenue?” Mr. Peterson asked. “No, I can’t.”

Translation: The STATE RIGGING on THIS QUESTION is IN!!!!!!

But he suggested that if the repeal passed, even though it is technically binding, the Legislature might be forced to find a way around it. --more--"

Yeah, I ALREADY KNEW THAT!

"leaders like House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi have suggested they would ignore the result even if voters approved the question"

That's MASSACHUSETTS' ONE-PARTY "democracy" for you, AmeriKa!!!!
