Slow Saturday Special: Quincy Cat Death Beyond My Comprehension

"Quincy couple charged with using dryer to kill cat" by Melissa Hanson |  Globe Correspondent, November 22, 2013

A Quincy couple pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty charges Friday after allegedly killing a cat by putting the pet in a dryer, officials said.

Christopher M. Lang, 32, was held on $10,000 cash bail, and Lori E. Tasney, 36, was held on $5,000 cash bail. Both were ordered to stay away from animals, as well as the cat’s owners, Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey’s office said.

Lang and Tasney will return to Norfolk District Court on Jan. 29 for a pretrial conference, Morrissey’s office said in a prepared statement.

The pair were guests in a Sea Street home when the residents found their cat, Kitty, dead in the yard.

Lang and Tasney were the only people home at the time the indoor cat was found dead outside, prosecutors said. The residents of the home later went to use their clothes dryer and discovered the lint trap was full of cat hair.

A necropsy performed by the Animal Rescue League of Boston found that Kitty had injuries consistent with “being tumbled to death in a dryer,” prosecutors said.

The couple also face larceny charges because several hundred dollars were found to be missing from one resident’s purse, prosecutors said.

I'm speechless in the face of such cruelty and terror that hits close to home.
