Look Before You Leap in Ledyard

"Suspect running from police in Conn. drowns in Thames River

A man from Virginia drowned after police say he jumped into the Thames River while fleeing from officers. Police said Jarmal Robinson, 24, of Norfolk, Va., took off after Ledyard police tried to make a routine traffic stop just before 1 a.m. Sunday. Police said they chased Robinson into Montville, where his car ran a red light and collided with another. The occupants of that car were taken to an area hospital with what police said were minor injuries. Police said Robinson then fled on foot and jumped into the river, where he tried to swim away. According to police, he went under the water about 30 feet from shore and did not resurface."
