Eye on Afghanistan: Why We Must Leave

Even though we won't.

"Afghan leader, US envoy meet amid strained ties" by Jason Straziuso, Associated Press | February 15, 2009

KABUL - President Obama's new envoy to Afghanistan met with President Hamid Karzai yesterday amid a downturn in US-Afghan relations.

Karzai says he still has not spoken with Obama almost a month after his inauguration, a sign the Afghan president no longer enjoys the favored status he had under former President George W. Bush.

He did last night.

"There is tension between us and the US government on issues of civilian casualties, arrests of Afghans, nightly raids on homes, and the casualties they cause," Karzai told Al-Jazeera television in an interview Friday....

I guess that's why Karzai has been appealing to the Russians.

Taliban militants have increased attacks and gained control in wide areas of countryside in the past three years....

All the while George W. Bush told us we were winning.

The specially trained US forces often enter Afghan villages at night and call out for their target to surrender. But villagers often try to defend their neighbors' homes, and the US forces end up killing innocent Afghans.

Which is why WE NEED TO LEAVE RIGHT NOW!!!

The top American military officer, Joint Chiefs chairman Admiral Mike Mullen, said the war will be lost if the United States cannot find a way to protect the Afghan people and gain their trust.

TOO LATE!! BOMBING THEM doesn't help.

"We can send more troops.

DID. Obama Orders 17,000 More U.S. Troops to Afghanistan

We can kill or capture all the Taliban and Al Qaeda leaders we can find, and we should.

DOING!

We can clear out havens and shut down the narcotics trade.

Don't want to do. Besides, Taliban shut that down in 2001, so WTF?

But until we prove capable, with the help of our allies and Afghan partners, of safeguarding the population, we will never know a peaceful, prosperous Afghanistan," he wrote in a column posted on The Washington Post's website yesterday.

Then we NEVER WILL because WE are the ones RIPPING IT UP!

In the latest violence, three separate roadside bombs killed seven police and a government official in attacks around Afghanistan, officials said.

What, NO DEAD CIVILIANS reported today?

And as if to emphasize the point:

"Five children reportedly killed in Afghanistan fighting" by Richard A. Oppel Jr., New York Times | February 14, 2009

KABUL, Afghanistan - Five children were killed in fighting between Australian special operations troops and Taliban guerrillas in south central Afghanistan, the Australian military said yesterday, the latest episode of civilian casualties that have hurt support for American and NATO troops here.

You think? How would you feel if a foreign occupier killed your children, Amurka?

The skirmish occurred before dawn Thursday in a village called Sarmorghab in Oruzgan Province, north of the southern city of Kandahar. It was condemned by the provincial governor, Assadullah Hamdam, who said it would harm relations between Afghans and foreign troops in the country.

He offered a different casualty toll, saying three children had been killed and four wounded after a sustained firefight. He said provincial officials had pleaded with troops not to carry out raids where civilians are present....

But the FOREIGN OCCUPIERS DID ANYWAY!!!

And we are bringing them "democracy," huh?

A statement by the Australian military about the Oruzgan deaths said the Australian troops began shooting after they were attacked by Taliban insurgents.

Why must western militaries all tell the same lies?

In addition to the five children, a "suspected insurgent" was killed and two children and two civilians also were wounded, the statement said.

Well, WAS HE or WASN'T HE?! Because if he WASN'T, well, there is ANOTHER INNOCENT DEAD (never mind that they are ALL INNOCENT; U.S. helped create Taliban and 9/11 an INSIDE JOB)!!!!

None of the Australians was hurt.

In an extended firefight, NO AUSSIES were HURT??

The Australian military said it had initiated an investigation, but that its troops had operated "in accordance with the rules of engagement."

So investigation closed before its opened?

In a separate attack, the American military command in Kabul said a serviceman had been killed in Oruzgan Province Thursday. The service member, whose military branch was not identified, was killed by "enemy fire during a combat reconnaissance patrol," the military said. An Afghan soldier was wounded.

I heard Americans must stay and want to be there, so screw the tears from now on.
