"Medvedev criticizes Ukraine leader" by Reuters | August 15, 2009

SOCHI, Russia - President Dmitry Medvedev ruled out yesterday any improvement in thorny relations with Ukraine under the government of President Viktor Yushchenko....

Yushchenko, who came to power following peaceful pro-Western protests in 2004, has opted for integrating Ukraine into NATO and the European Union, abandoning an alliance with Moscow. Yushchenko has always been viewed by the Kremlin as a hostile figure, and his support to Georgia during its war last year with Russia particularly infuriated Moscow....

Yushchenko is running for reelection, with the vote Jan. 17. Medvedev’s verbal attack and the Ukrainian leader’s response could boost his popularity with nationalist voters. But he is unlikely to win, since his popularity stands at just 4 percent....

Woah!

How come all the leaders the US sides with are such unpopular scum?

LONDON - The type of dioxin that doctors found in Yushchenko, TCDD, was the most lethal kind - it was also used in Agent Orange, a herbicide sprayed by US troops during the Vietnam War that has been linked to numerous health problems....

Gee, that sure is odd.

Yushchenko’s doctors report that it took about 15 1/2 months for his body to get rid of half of the dioxin, much quicker than the years that other specialists had estimated it would take. His doctors said that was due to the treatment they gave him, though they would not discuss what they did....

Why not?

The dioxin used to poison Yushchenko could have been produced in numerous laboratories. And because it was a purified version that has no natural source.... scientists don’t have any clues to trace its origins.

Uh-oh!!!!

So what does the Vietnam vet have that Yusche doesn't:

"Agent Orange linked to heart disease, Parkinson's" by RICHARD LARDNER, Associated Press | July 24, 2009

WASHINGTON -- Medical researchers say there may be a link between exposure to the defoliant Agent Orange and other herbicides used during the Vietnam War and an increased chance of developing serious heart problems and Parkinson's disease.

Notice how they always tell the vets about 40 years too late? I expect the same will hold true for the DU and chemical poisonings the current crop has received.

A study from the Institute of Medicine released Friday contains several caveats, but suggests there is a stronger connection than previously thought about the health risks to Vietnam veterans. The research was sponsored by the Veterans Affairs Department, which will decide what to do with the findings. A VA spokeswoman said the department is reviewing the study to determine the full extent of the toxic effects of Agent Orange so exposed Vietnam veterans get the disability benefits they are entitled to.

Why did you dump the stuff on them (and the Vietnamese, let's not forget them) in the first place?

American forces sprayed millions of gallons of Agent Orange and other defoliants over parts of Vietnam from 1962 to 1970. Military authorities used the defoliants in an attempt to massively prune away the dense jungle cover used by North Vietnamese forces to hide.

In a JUST WORLD and REAL NEWSPAPER that would be called what it is: CHEMICAL WARFARE and WAR CRIMES!!!

American troops and others exposed to the chemicals later complained of numerous health problems, however, and researchers are still trying to determine the scope of the damage....

Yeah, SUPPORT the TROOPS!!
