"Zebra mussel test program may end Quabbin boat ban" by Beth Daley, Globe Staff | August 4, 2009
Do you REALLY want to RISK YOUR DRINKING WATER for this?
In a pilot program launching Saturday, 20 to 40 boats used by Special Olympics fishing competitors will be allowed on the reservoir, but only after they are hosed down with high-temperature water to kill any mussels or larvae that may be attached to the hulls or lurking in bilge water....
Ever since the mussels were discovered in a Berkshire County lake last month, state and local officials have worried that they could clog pipes and boat engines, and destroy aquatic life in Western Massachusetts waterways. The mussels, originally from Russia, were first found in the United States in the late 1980s.
Then WHY ALLOW any one at all?
Or WHY NOT LET the LOCALS DECIDE?!!!!!!
Why do you HATE US SO, Boston Globe?
The mussel has not been found in other Western Massachusetts lakes, but the Quabbin, which supplies much of Eastern Massachusetts with drinking water, was shut to boats because it is a critical drinking water supply....
Except for THIS EXCEPTION, 'eh?
So WHAT SPECIAL POWER DOES the SPECIAL OLYMPICS have, huh?
MWRA officials said they found out about the Special Olympics fishing day after they shut the Quabbin. Wanting to help participants - and hoping to figure out a way to allow boats back on the waterway - they decided to launch the wash-down program. DCR staff members, not boat owners, will wield the hoses to ensure that all valves, pipes, and bilges are cleaned properly.
Like they say about pregnancies, it only takes once.
Why not TAKE the KIDS to SOME OTHER LAKE instead?!!!!!!

Of course, I'm just a paranoid know-nothing that only lives out here.
TRUST in the government, America, TRUST in the STATE, and most importantly of all, just TRUST your lying, divisive, money-losing, agenda-pushing big--city Zionist war rag.
"Yesterday's sweltering heat"
Where, Globe, Seattle?
And GEE, I AM LOOKING RIGHT at A PRINTED COPY on MY DESK that SAYS THAT; however, the "updated" WEB VERSION only says
"Yesterday’s heat...."
Need I even say it, world?
