"Hard-hitting trio sets out to improve schools in cities

WASHINGTON - Education Secretary Arne Duncan is joining forces with two unlikely allies, the Rev. Al Sharpton and former House speaker Newt Gingrich, to push cities to fix failing schools....

TRILLIONS for WARS and BANKS and, oh, never mind.

The idea came from a meeting they had in May with President Obama, who has put education high on his priority list.

How many issues is he going to "prioritize" anyway?

Interviewed on NBC’s “Today’’ show yesterday, Gingrich and Sharpton were asked how they had agreed to work together on education in view of the many differences they have had on other issues.

“Education has to be the number one civil right of the 21st century, and I’ve been passionate about reforming education,’’ said Gingrich, a Georgia Republican....

Now he's equating education to a civil rights issue?

Sharpton, a liberal Democrat and community activist, chimed in, “If there’s anything Americans should be mature enough about to have a decent conversation, it’s the education of their children.’’
