Smearing Kennedy's Coffin

Well, he was Catholic and it is a Jewish paper.

They couldn't resist, huh?

I mean, even I haven't said anything bad about the guy.

I've
linked a few criticisms but that's it.

"An icon, for better or worse" by Sasha Issenberg, Globe Correspondent | September 1, 2009

WASHINGTON - In the spring of 1970, months after Mary Jo Kopechne died in Ted Kennedy’s car at Chappaquiddick, graphic designer George Lois produced an Esquire magazine cover depicting the senator in a Santa Claus hat, the same innocent headgear Lois had used seven years earlier to ironically crown Sonny Liston, the boxer whom most of middle-class America saw as an unapologetic thug. Lois said he returned to the idea for Kennedy to invoke “the bad-guy/good-guy theme at a time when he was being vilified.’’

Wow. The Globe front paged this?

The guy's body ain't even cold yet! They JUST BURIED HIM!

Secret Kennedy hatred showing it seems, although Ted was a fine servant.

************

The Kennedy remembered since his death has been.... a classic, old-school politician who dominated the Senate with the instinct of a garrulous local gladhander. Media images have been full of him sailing and playing with his dogs.

How much art Ted Kennedy’s end will inspire remains unknown, but it is unlikely to evoke the outpouring of his brothers’ violent deaths....

Ted, after all, was the Kennedy brother who lived long enough to die without myth.

The newspaper is a fine one to be talking about myths.

That whole 9/11 thing.... and Iraq.

Well, that explains the hatred of the war-promoting, agenda-pushing papers.

"Senator left war chest of $4.55 million" by Joseph Williams, Globe Staff | September 1, 2009

It can't be a campaign fund?

The CHOICE of WORDS is REALLY QUESTIONABLE in SO MANY WAYS -- not just here, but in SO MANY ARTICLES!

REINFORCING that WAR, WAR, WAR MENTALITY in you, America, NO MATTER WHAT THE ISSUE!!!

WASHINGTON - When he died of brain cancer last week, Senator Edward M. Kennedy left behind a war chest many politicians would envy: $4.55 million in cash and practically no campaign debt, the benefits of a 47-year incumbency and no serious political threats at home....

So how much health care (or anything else) would that buy Massachusetts communities? And he was just sitting on it?
Can that money go there? My town would be all fixed up with about $2 mill.

They eased up a bit (in my paper, not on the web version):

"Cousin hopes Mary Jo Kopechne, Kennedy 'at peace'

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. --
A cousin of the woman who died in Ted Kennedy's car on Chappaquiddick Island in 1969 says she hopes the late senator and her cousin are "now at peace."

They have brought it up more than I have!!!!!

Mary Jo Kopechne's cousin Georgetta Potoski, of Plymouth, Pa., offered her thoughts in a letter to a Pennsylvania newspaper. The letter, published Tuesday, says: "So many American memories are tied up with the Kennedy family. Good memories of space walks and civil rights, John-John and Caroline, touch football and the beauty and dignity of Jackie. And, of course, Chappaquiddick." Kennedy drove off a bridge into a pond on Chappaquiddick Island, Mass. He swam to safety while Kopechne drowned. He pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident and got a suspended sentence and probation.

Neither you or I would be so lucky.

For the record, I don't think there was what I would consider a true "conspiracy" here:

"Kurtis puts the pieces together and finally a story emerges that makes sense -- Ted was not in the car. He'd bailed and returned to the party, found out only the next morning when an aide rushed up and whispered in his ear.

Investigative Reports: Chappaquiddick

Yes, a tragic accident that destroyed any hopes of an Edward Kennedy presidency and cast doubt on his character -- but not a malicious act of murder, as is what happened to his brothers.
