Swine Flu Spoiled Thanksgiving

This first item is an Invisible Ink that never appeared in my printed copy of the paper."

"Shots for dozens delivered wrong vaccine

The wrong flu shot was given to 47 people in Needham, including 18 members of the Fire Department, according to a press release the town issued yesterday. The seasonal flu shot was inadvertently given, instead of the vaccine for the H1N1 virus, known as swine flu. Receiving more than one dose of the seasonal flu vaccine should not cause any ill effects, according to the release. The health department learned of the mistake on Friday, and began dispensing the H1N1 vaccine to those individuals on the Monday, according to the release. Needham Fire Chief Paul Buckley told WHDH-TV that labeling of the vaccines contributed to the mix up.

You know, I DON'T CARE WHAT THEY SAY NOW! I am SAVING THAT CLIPPING in my WALLET!!!! In NO WAY AM I TAKING YOUR SHOT now!!!!

You don't know WHAT is in that VIAL, readers!!!

Well, I gotta get ready for the meal.

"When flu hits, health specialists urge passing up holiday meals" by Stephanie Ebbert, Globe Staff | November 26, 2009

swine trumped turkey....

This is Thanksgiving in the time of swine flu: Expect lots of leftovers. Pack them up and drop them off at the house of the afflicted. Maybe just leave a plate on the porch. Public health officials are reminding those who feel sick, even slightly, not to attend holiday festivities, regardless of the familial pressure applied or the side dishes prepared....

I'm already losing my appetite -- which will make the relatives pleased!!!

If only you could slough off that MSM WAR PROPAGANDA PRESSURE, 'eh, Amurkn?!!!

Thanksgiving can seem downright unappetizing if the guests are scrutinizing the hosts’ hand-washing habits and wondering who stuffed the bird....

Now I don't want to go.

The recommendations promise to change the character of this year’s Thanksgiving feast for many families. Communal dinners are being relocated or scrapped entirely to accommodate ailing cooks. Some families have decided to offer arm’s-length greetings - air kisses, but no hugs - and keep the hand sanitizer nearby....

With a
donation pail next to it!

Those who are well enough to cook might find, even more than usual, that they cooked far too much food after some guests bail out because of illness....

First of all, they ALWAYS COOK TOO MUCH FOOD!

Truth is, you have to love them for their intentions, you really do.

We are GOOD PEOPLE here in AmeriKa!!!

It is OUR GOVERNMENT that STINKS!!!

And I HAVE a PHONE CALL to MAKE!!!

Good thing I live in Massachusetts. Flu is on the wane (but I still called in sick to Thanksgiving)!

"Cautious hope as H1N1 cases fall statewide" by Elizabeth Cooney and Stephen Smith, Globe Correspondent | Globe Staff | November 26, 2009

The swine flu epidemic appears to be waning in Massachusetts, doctors and hospitals said yesterday, though state health officials are not yet ready to declare that the worst is over and specialists warned that the flu often comes in waves.

Nationally, health authorities sounded an alarm yesterday about the emergence of serious pneumonia cases among young adults who have had swine flu, also known as H1N1. A kind of pneumonia usually seen in the elderly and infirm is now afflicting younger people in some cities....

So this is the real depopulation bug they let loose, huh?

"The flu is going to take care of most of the problem. Apparently the vaccine is actually a trigger that reacts with something they haven’t released yet. That’s due to begin in a month or two. I don’t know exactly when"

Is he psychic?

UKRAINE BLACK LUNGS

Coming YOUR WAY, America?

Is that why the MSM has been so silent about Ukraine?

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health, which relies on voluntary reporting from sites across the state, says it is too early to say if a decline in cases is real. Although the flu surveillance report it issued late last week showed a drop in flu activity, a spokeswoman, Jennifer Manley, said adjustments are not uncommon because of late-reporting physicians. The next update will be released tomorrow.

Where I'm sure we will be back to crisis status.

Dr. Benjamin Kruskal, director of infection control for Harvard Vanguard, said:

Maybe it’s the change in the weather. Humidity and temperature really affect transmission. We have had some warm times on and off.’’

You guys have a lie, 'er, explanation for everything.

Swine flu could conceivably rebound....

I could conceivably become the king of England.

Even as the fall wave of swine flu infections appears to be peaking, Dr. Anne Schuchat, the top flu specialist at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said during a media briefing that tracking systems are detecting a long-feared surge in invasive pneumococcal disease, an especially dangerous form of pneumonia.

I think they just released something here.

Influenza is often the opening act for pneumonia because flu viruses compromise the lining of the respiratory tract, leaving lungs vulnerable. When the potentially lethal pneumococcal germs gain a foothold, the bacteria can easily migrate into blood and spinal fluid and cause a cascade of complications. In October, Denver recorded three times as many cases of the bacterial disease as in previous Octobers, said Schuchat, who urged people with underlying conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and heart disease to be vaccinated against pneumonia.

Yup, ALWAYS PUSHING the NEEDLE IN!!!!

“Most of that increase has been in adults under the age of 60,’’ she said. “The findings in Denver probably reflect findings that are occurring in other parts of the country, where surveillance hasn’t been as intensive.’’

There’s no official evidence that cases of flu-related pneumonia are on the rise in Massachusetts, but Gary Amberik can provide personal testimony to the one-two punch.

So now the MSM is into ANECDOTAL evidence now?

He fell ill the weekend of Oct. 23 with all the hallmarks of swine flu: a fever, an aching body, a pounding head. Symptoms persisted. A week later, concerned that he was still feeling sick, Amberik went to Beverly Hospital’s emergency room. “I was getting checked out by the doctor there,’’ Amberik, 36, of Marblehead, recalled. “He noticed something in my lungs, and I had a chest X-ray.’’

Diagnosis: pneumonia. He was sent home with a prescription for antibiotics. His symptoms subsided during the next few days but, even then, the illness robbed him of breath as he made the usually carefree trip from his car to his office. “When I told people I had the pneumonia, they were much more concerned about that than about the swine flu, absolutely, especially my mom,’’ said Amberik, now fully recovered. “At least I’m all better for the holiday.’’

Yup, ONE GUY gets sick and an EPIDEMIC is CONFIRMED!!!!

I'm glad I missed the bird, too

"Scientists get funds to crack the genetic code of turkeys" by Daniel de Vise, Washington Post | November 26, 2009

WASHINGTON - Virginia Tech scientists announced this week they have secured funding to complete the genetic map of Meleagris gallopavo, the domesticated turkey. The US Agriculture Department has awarded a two-year, $908,000 grant to Virginia Tech and the University of Minnesota to finish decoding the turkey, one of a few species to be mapped at the genetic level.

With all the red ink we are hemorrhaging they could save a million?

Turkeys are the fourth-leading source of meat on dinner tables. Cows, chickens, and pigs have already been genetically catalogued.

Don't eat meat, folks. Mine is going to be meatless.

The possibilities for genetic manipulation seem endless. At a bare minimum, the turkey might be genetically engineered to convey a bit more flavor. And turkeys are not the most comely of birds; could they be bred for better looks as well as taste? How about a turkey that arrives pre-stuffed, or packed with extra endorphins to pacify a dysfunctional family? Or thighs thick enough for the NFL?

Speaking of which, I'm going to watch the football games for a change because I'm staying home!

That way I won't be eating any Frankenfood bird, either!

University scientists say genetic mapping will help turkeys lead healthier lives.

Like we care about the turkey! We are going to BEHEAD HIM!

Breeders will come to know how the turkey immune system works and how to fight off such pathogens as bird flu.

Oh, THAT is what this is about: MAKING VIRUSES!!!

“The turkey, we hope, will live happier,’’ said Rami Dalloul, assistant professor of poultry immunology in the Department of Animal and Poultry Sciences at Virginia Tech.

Until we murder him for a meal?

But this is not all about the interests of the turkey.

Actually, NONE of it seems like it is in his interest!

One goal of genetic mapping is to identify genes that might produce larger breasts, or plumper legs - potential breakthroughs for the diner, to be sure, but without much payoff for the bird....

Medford High School students have launched a protest against their school’s cafeteria food, using Facebook and Yahoo to urge a boycott next week to highlight their complaints.

Who can blame them?

More than 400 students have pledged on Facebook to boycott the food next week, even as schools Superintendent Roy Belson insists that it is healthy....

Then TAKE UP a TRAY and CHOW DOWN!

The superintendent added that he’s asked Medford High headmaster Paul Krueger to speak with Bears about the chat forum post, because it may have incited fear.

Yeah, that is only acceptable when government and MSM are pushing wars or some other agenda -- like global warming!

“That’s like saying there’s a bomb in the high school,’’ Belson said....

Talk about HYPERBOLE!!!

They simply DON'T WANT TO EAT THE FOOD because it will make a DIARRHEA BOMB in their gut, fascist!

Sophomores Kimberly Armao, Tayla Martin, and Dani O’Hare criticized the food, repeatedly calling it “nasty.’’

Other students knew nothing about the boycott....

They are the ones that ended up in the bathroom.

"Officials examine Milford Water Co.; Bacteria outbreak data under review" by Kathleen Moore, Globe Correspondent | November 20, 2009

MILFORD - The strike force’s mission is to conduct undercover investigations, build cases against alleged environmental violators, and take violators to court....

Last week, the Department of Environmental Protection concluded a separate administrative review of Milford Water Co., issuing a consent order that required the utility to make operational upgrades and pay fines for last summer’s water contamination that forced residents and business to boil water for 13 days....

On Tuesday, the Department of Public Utilities held a hearing in Milford as it attempts to determine whether Milford Water Company’s ratepayers should foot the estimated $440,000 bill for the 13-day boil water order.

WTF? Why should RATEPAYERS who paid for S*** WATER have to PAY?!!!!

"2 more Mainers die of H1N1, death total at 9

AUGUSTA, Maine --
Maine's top health official says two more people in Maine have died of swine flu, bringing the total to nine since August. Dr. Dora Anne Mills of the state Center for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday that both victims were between 25 and 64 years old and had underlying health problems. One was from Franklin County, the other was from Androscoggin County. Mills said H1N1 continues to be widespread in Maine, with 270 new cases reported in the past week. Thirty-one of those people, including eight children, were hospitalized.

Not up there, I guess.

How about halfway around the world?

"Heavy rains soak Muslims during pilgrimage; Downpour adds risk as millions flock to Mecca" by Hadeel Al-Shalchi, Associated Press | November 26, 2009

JIDDAH, Saudi Arabia - This year has brought the added worry that the massing of more than 3 million people from around the world could bring a swine flu outbreak. In the past months, the Saudi government has been working with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to set up clinics and precautionary measures to stem any outbreak.

At least Muslims do not eat pork!

But please, do not work with the infectors!

Shahul Ebrahim, a consultant from the Atlanta-based CDC at the hajj, said it was too early to tell if the rains could exacerbate the spread of H1N1, which is transmitted in the air, not by water. “Rain can lead to other waterborne diseases . . . But we still don’t know how it will affect H1N1,’’ he said.

Hassan El Bushra, an epidemiologist in the Cairo office of the World Health Organization, said “there is no evidence that this will cause any kind of spread, including the spread of swine flu.’’ It could even be beneficial if it means crowds are smaller, he said.

So far, four pilgrims have died from the H1N1 virus since arriving in Saudi Arabia in recent days, and 67 others have been diagnosed with the virus, Saudi Health Minister Abdullah al-Rabeeah told the Arab news network Al-Jazeera English....

The heaviest rain to hit Islam’s annual hajj pilgrimage in years soaked the faithful and flooded the road to Mecca, snarling traffic as millions of Muslims headed for the holy sites. The downpours add an extra hazard on top of intense concerns about the spread of swine flu.

Pilgrims in white robes holding umbrellas, some wearing face masks for fear of the flu, circled the black cube-shaped Kaaba in Mecca, the opening rite for the hajj. But the shrine, Islam’s holiest site, and the nearby, rain-soaked streets did not see the usual massive, pushing crowds, because many tried to stay inside nearby hotels or were caught in the traffic jams heading into the city.

Yesterday’s heavy rainfall added an extra complication to Islam’s annual hajj pilgrimage. With millions of faithful Muslims converging on Mecca, health officials fear an outbreak of swine flu. The rain, however, kept the usual massive crowds down.

Mecca and the nearby Red Sea coastal city of Jiddah often see heavy rains during the winter months, and yesterday’s were unusually strong, swamping Jiddah with 2.76 inches of rain, more than it gets in a year on average, according to weather officials.

So the Saudis have been getting flooded out and it's the first I've seen in the BG!

They were the heaviest in years to coincide with the four-day hajj. Already jammed traffic was worsened - with a backup of cars as long as 20 miles on the partially closed road from Jiddah to Mecca, and some pilgrims and journalists were trapped in Jiddah. The rains could also exacerbate the hajj’s perennial dangers. The rites - a lifetime aspiration for Muslims, who come to cleanse their sins - are always a logistical nightmare, as a population the size of a small city moves between Mecca and holy sites in the nearby desert over the course of four days.

In the past, the rites have been plagued by deadly crushes caused by congestion as the unimaginable crowds perform the rituals. In 2006, all it took was a piece of luggage dropped by one person to trip up others and cause a pile-up that killed more than 360 people. A slippery, rain-slicked street could be equally deadly - and with the main rites due to begin outside Mecca today, Saudi authorities urged those arriving at the holy sites to move cautiously and not to rush.

Yeah, those out-of-control Muslims!
