The Dirtiest State in the Nation

Getting a TASTE of the life of a Palestinian, Bay-Stater?

"growing anger over the situation.... their daily routines into disarray. The Dunkin’ Donuts in the center of town was closed, and a nearby corner store was out of ice. Even showers, normally a relaxing, invigorating experience, had become unnerving"

Is this what you're
TAXES are going for?

"On tap in Milford: Steaming anger; After days of sweat and hassles, boil-water order lifted for most" by Peter Schworm, Globe Staff | August 19, 2009

MILFORD - .... With the temperature approaching triple digits, many residents in this town of 28,000 were glued to a hot stove. Parents of infants boiled endless pots of water, first for their baby’s formula, then to sterilize the bottle, and finally for a sponge-bath. With the town’s tap water tainted by bacteria and unfit for direct consumption, water for cooking, washing, and even for pets had to come from a bottle or be boiled clean. All that steam turned already sweltering kitchens into saunas, and the mildest personalities into fuming grumps. Even cold drinks were a heated hassle.

“You have to boil the water for the ice cube tray!’’ exclaimed Janis George, a 46-year-old with a newborn granddaughter, sweat dappling her brow as she made her way up a downtown hill. “Has to be hot before it can be cold.’’

At the high school, lines of cars snaked through the parking lot to pick up free cases of bottled water, the final day of the town-run distribution. Others rushed to grocery and convenience stores for the coveted coolant, refusing to inhale any more heated vapors.

Some, worried about swallowing even a drop of infected town water, had steered clear of the shower, no matter how ripe and grimy they became in the August swelter.

“I haven’t felt clean in a long time,’’ said Sophia Falconer, a 16-year-old gulping down some bottled water on Main Street at the peak of yesterday’s heat. “I’m not taking any chances, and everyone I know is taking the same precautions. It’s just ridiculous, completely out of control.’’

Others shared Falconer’s growing anger over the situation, frustrated that the ban had thrown their daily routines into disarray. The Dunkin’ Donuts in the center of town was closed, and a nearby corner store was out of ice. Even showers, normally a relaxing, invigorating experience, had become unnerving.

State environmental officials issued the boil-order after the town’s water provider detected coliform bacteria in the supply Aug. 9. The system has since been flushed to remove sediment and treated with chlorine, but twice-daily tests show that contamination lingers in one section of town.

“This is a stubborn area,’’ said Ed Coletta, a Department of Environmental Protection spokesman. “Very rarely do you see this happen. It’s usually one, two, maybe three days and it’s back to normal.’’

Officials have pinpointed the source of the pollution as a major water tank with a leaky roof. They said they will continue to test water quality throughout the town.

At the high school, Fire Chief John Touhey said the stifling heat was making a bad situation that much more maddening...

I'm glad I've stocking up on the bottled water!

An INVISIBLE INK story (not in my printed paper but on the web, and I am really getting tired of this s***)

GLOUCESTER - City officials said yesterday that a breakdown at a water treatment plant over the weekend poses no risk to public health or safety.... An outdoor water ban, including restrictions on watering lawns and washing cars, remains in effect, several days after the city’s Babson water treatment plant was forced to shut down, because sediment levels rose to a level higher than allowed by Gloucester’s permit with the state Department of Environmental Protection....

And Massachushitts is LITERALLY a GARBAGE DUMP!

"A gritty problem; New Bedford built schools, homes on old dump" by Beth Daley, Globe Staff | August 16, 2009

NEW BEDFORD - Brenda Mattos’s neighborhood stands atop a former 101-acre dump where so much garbage and industrial waste were burned through the 1950s that it left ash 12 feet deep in places. But it wasn’t until workers broke ground for a new middle school five years ago that testing began in earnest to map the dump’s footprint and the extent of toxic contamination.

Now, as this financially strapped city struggles to find, haul away, or contain the pollution, its story is instructive for old cities across the country as they redevelop their gritty landscapes. The only available open land is often on industrial sites, where the recklessness of the past can easily overtake ambitions for the future. As New Bedford is belatedly learning, the more you look for pollution in such brownfields, the more you are likely to find.

Yeah, and THAT is the REAL ENVIRONMENTAL THREAT! The POISONING of our LAND, AIR and WATER with CHEMICALS -- not the FART-MISTING F***ERS of global warming.

Costs escalate, yet no cleanup or amount of testing may ever be thorough enough to make people feel safe, especially when children are involved.

“I would never have built a middle school on that....’’

*****************

Today, the inviting grassy expanses of the high and middle school lawns and the sprawling playing fields belie the contamination underneath. Mattos’s street, part of a small residential area of well-kept, modest single family houses....

City officials knew the burn dump was underneath. Early on, the high school property was even considered for designation as a Superfund site, which would have qualified it for federal clean-up money. But no one ever dug deep to find out what was really there.

But LET'S PUT a SCHOOL THERE! Yeah, GOVERNMENT is LOOKING OUT FOR YOU, Bay-Stater! They LOOT YOUR TAX DOLLARS and then flip you the finger!

“It was like no one wanted to know....’’

But GOVERNMENT is here to PROTECT YOU and YOUR KIDS!!!!!

Well, I NO LONGER BELIEVE THAT and NEVER WILL AGAIN!

There is TOO MUCH EVIDENCE that THEY SERVE OTHER INTERESTS!!!!!!

Although a local resident - Brian Woolley, who grew up near the old dump - warned against building without a full investigation of contamination, construction went ahead....

Yup, DON'T LISTEN to the TRUTH-TELLERS!!! Just PLOW AHEAD!!!!

Oh, I AM SO HURT RIGHT NOW for you, my FELLOW RESIDENTS!!!!

*******************

The drumbeat of test results has made some residents uneasy and distrusting of city officials, especially after they removed 86 tons of PCB-laced soil from the high school lawn in April without telling residents....

And they WONDER why they AREN'T TRUSTED?

This in LIBERAL, OPEN, TOLERANT, Massachushitts?

The MYTH EXPLODES!!!!

City officials acknowledge they need to do a better job keeping citizens informed....

Do you LIKE BEING LIED TO, citizen?

While brownfields are important to redevelop, environmental specialists say, communities need to ensure they understand the full extent of contamination and the costs to clean it before moving forward....

“I’m terrified....’’

Welcome to Massachushitts!!!

Gee, I just CAN'T IMAGINE why people are LEAVING OUR FINE STATE (and that's not mentioning the lying, looting tax increases).

"We need a plan to keep people from leaving the state" by Phil Redo | August 18, 2009

.... People leave a state for many reasons. Moves are mostly made to improve personal or economic quality of life. No doubt, at a certain age, the lure of a new beginning in a gentler climate or the proximity to family may require a move.

WTF? I thought the GAYS WERE BRINGING PEOPLE IN all over the place because of the legal marriage thing. Whadda ya mean PEOPLE ARE LEAVING the GREAT LIBERAL STATE of Massachushitts!?

But many are leaving Massachusetts for the Southwest or Florida or New Hampshire because they believe they cannot achieve or maintain a quality of life in Massachusetts.

Mine's been shot to s*** the last two years.

Perhaps even more concerning than the exodus of longtime residents is the state’s weakening ability to attract and retain new business enterprises and young people who attend college here. After graduation they either cannot find a job or housing or do not see the future potential in the state....

Because THEY SEE WHAT a LIBERAL SHIT HOLE this state really is!!! FORGET the MYTH that has been BUILT UP around Massachusetts by the MSM , folks!!!

THOSE F***ING LIARS have their AGENDA-PUSHING reasons; however, as an ON-THE-GROUND RESIDENT and REPORTER I can tell you this state sucks in so many ways!!!

Massachusetts has the potential to be the most important economic and social engine in the nation as this new century really gets rolling. If there can be an American Renaissance, let it begin here. We possess unequalled natural resources, arguably the most potent intellectual capital in the world, and a human resolve that embraces the entire spectrum: the yeoman spirit as well as the world-weary cynic, which itself is a virtue that often prevents hubris and catastrophe....

Don't you LOVE the ARROGANT YANKEE CHUTZPAH?!!!!!!

Yeah, we are SO GREAT around here!

Then WHY is this state a SHIT HOLE, guy?

And THANKS for the RESPECT, Globe, over SO MANY ISSUES -- the LIES of IRAQ at the top of the list. Thanks for LISTENING to this IDIOSYNCRATIC and INSIGHTFUL citizen.

Yeah, readers, I HAVE HAD IT with the INSULTS!

What really ails us are housing issues, lack of jobs....

Yeah, but SHINE UP that SHIT real good and MAYBE IT WON'T SMELL, 'eh?
