It resounds through every darn article the Globe prints now. It is almost as if they are bitter about the loss of money, the Internet, the way they were treated by the New York Times, and who knows what else (my caustic, acerbic, outrageous, commentary at the myriads of deceptions, omissions, obfuscations, and lies?).
I've actually stopped trying to figure them now. I'm going to close it up tighter here and start really pounding other blogs as a preface to what the unbelievably bad media that pass for newspapers in America.
Readers, I have been reading newspapers for decades, and I'm telling you, I have never seen them this bad. Iraq was bad, very dad, but that model has been extended across all articles, all issues. Maybe it was always there and I couldn't see it (those damn blogs again), but they have gone around the bend lately. You can read a couple pages here for the feel of it all, or go to the links on the side.
Thanks again for being here, readers. I can't emphasize that enough.
Let me get you started this morning with this (Globe's lead):
"Boston to get school athletics boost; Foundation created to funnel millions to underfunded programs, hire coaches" by Bob Hohler, Globe Staff | August 3, 2009
Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino will announce today the creation of a multimillion-dollar charitable foundation and consortium of professional sports teams, colleges and universities, and corporations to enhance opportunities for Boston student-athletes - a potential breakthrough for Boston’s chronically underfunded high school athletic system....
And what's great about this is the next front-page piece I'm going to post is about kids going hungry over the summer.
Menino launched the initiative after a Globe series detailed deep-rooted inadequacies in equipment, facilities, coaching, and academic eligibility in the school sports system....
Yeah, yeah: The Boston Globe Just Doesn't Get It
They get action!
Like lying us into wars then hiding the conflicts in the s*** sheets?
Suffolk CEO John F. Fish, whose foundation contributed $1 million to launch the initiative, said the mission is to promote academic achievement through athletic success.
Yeah, EXCEPT "the most valuable type of learning doesn’t occur in a classroom"
Just a little preview, readers.
“The kids in the city of Boston deserve this,’’ said Fish, whose foundation has spent millions of dollars building and improving facilities for disadvantaged youth. “The business community, the pro teams, and the colleges and universities will be good partners in making this a reality.’’
The city for many years has spent less than a half-percent of its total budget on athletics, far below the state and national averages.
“In an economic crisis like we’re having now,’’ Fish said, “it’s almost incumbent on the businesses and citizens of the community to step forward and say: ‘They need our help now. Do we truly want to make a difference?’ ’’
I don't even want to ask or investigate anymore: it's either a jewish source or a crypto-jew, and that's all you are going to find.
How's that breakfast comin', Amurkn? Pretty tough getting down, isn't it? Don't eat too quickly and save plenty of room; it's a seven-course breakfast.
Menino said he expects “100 percent’’ participation from Boston’s professional sports teams, which previously indicated to the Globe that they would contribute to the cause if the city asked. Every major college and university in Boston has also agreed to provide goods and services....
It's amazing where you can just GET A MILLION DOLLARS, huh?
Proving that SPORTS is NOTHING MORE than a LOOTING -- although profitable, a double-whammy to the public -- OPERATION where UNTOLD WEALTH is being HIDDEN!
The program marks the start of a new era for the city’s coaches.
Wait until you see a startling statistic later (not the new era they are talking about).
Although Boston boasts some of the best in the state - coaches expert in teaching sports and highly committed to ensuring their athletes succeed as students and citizens - many others in the city lack the proficiency, mentoring skills, and dedication required for their players to thrive....
Did they just INSULT COACHES?
You know, the only ones they never insult (and in fact cover for and excuse) are the elite you-know-whose and the agenda-pushing agents.
You know, if they LACK the SKILLS, then WHY are they among the HIGHEST PAID!
Boston high school coaches rank among the best paid in the state, with stipends next fall ranging from $4,947 for volleyball and soccer coaches to $10,778 for football coaches.
You know, that is Massachusetts in a nutshell right there.
The foundation plans to establish new job criteria for coaches that stress academics and mentoring. Foundation officials also expect to play a key role in hiring, despite the city’s contract with the Boston Teachers Union, which grants teachers preference and gives headmasters the final authority in hiring.
“The Red & Blue Foundation, with the mayor and the superintendent of schools, needs to have the authority to select coaches,’’ Fish said. “If we don’t have that authority, it’s impossible for us to control the outcome we’re looking for.’’
Initial indications are that the Boston Teachers Union will agree to the arrangement....
Union president Richard Stutman applauded the effort to upgrade the athletic system but indicated that teachers may be less receptive to waiving the contract’s hiring rules. Still, he said, an accommodation can probably be reached.
Do you know how TIRED I AM of seeing COULD BE, IF, MAY BE, YET, STILL, BUT, HOWEVER, etc, etc, in a NEWSPAPER REPORT! If I put those in a college paper, I'M GETTING an F, "but" here they are ALL OVER my NEWSPAPER!!!!
Fish said: “We need to get kids off the street corners and out of their houses watching TV in the afternoon.’’
And into a military uniform, no?
That's another aspect of sports we don't talk about.
The UNSWERVING, UNQUESTIONING FEALTY to the corporate executive, 'er, coach with WAR JARGON as a BONUS!
I'll always remember Patriot fans I knew at the time saying they like Parcells. I thought to myself, yeah, unless you had to work for the obnoxious, bullying SOB (and the reporters took it!)
Update:
Might want to rethink that athletic program:
"Study finds rise in physical education injuries" by ASSOCIATED PRESS | August 3, 2009
CHICAGO - Injuries to American children during physical education classes increased by 150 percent from 1997 to 2007, a new study finds, a possible drawback to a movement encouraging more vigorous exercise in schools.
Yet that might have less to do with lively education programs than with a lack of adult supervision, specialists said. A decline in school nurses and larger class sizes could be to blame, said the study’s senior author, Lara McKenzie of Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio....
While the benefits of physical education classes outweigh the risks, McKenzie said, “being healthy doesn’t have to hurt.’’
No pain, no gain.
The study, based on hospital reports, suggests schools should renew their efforts to make the class safer, said Cheryl Richardson of the National Association for Sport and Physical Education in Reston, Va.
Oh, that's what this agenda-pushing piece of fascism is all about:
