Tex-Mex News Drought

Both literally and figuratively:

"Amid drought, Texas cattle, crop losses mount" by Reuters | August 21, 2009

DALLAS - .... The drought has extended into Mexico, which has reported that it is suffering from its driest period in 68 years. Low levels in reservoirs prompted government officials to slow the flow of water to Mexico City.

You would think it would merit more than a one-day BRIEF, huh?

Other areas of south-central Texas are suffering extreme conditions. In most of the affected counties, the rains began to taper off sharply about September 2007. In at least nine counties, the drought is the worst on record....

But you know what DOES DESERVE the FULL TREATMENT, don't you?

"Holder turns up heat on Mexican drug cartels in US; AG announces a dozen new indictments" by Devlin Barrett, Associated Press | August 21, 2009

WASHINGTON - .... Obama told Calderón that human rights is one of his major priorities, but....

Sigh. Always a but, still, yet....

President Obama has promised to help Calderón with the escalating drug war, including increasing enforcement to try to stop the smuggling of weapons across the border and pushing for US ratification of a treaty designed to lessen the flow of weapons to drug cartels....

Tell the CIA to get out of the business then.

The indictments grew out of a street gang investigation in Chicago and drug-related killings in New York. Drug violence has claimed more than 11,000 lives in Mexico since President Felipe Calderón took office in late 2006 and launched a major offensive against cartels, which responded with unprecedented violence.

It has claimed more than 12,000 and that was reported sometime ago.

Why the low-ball, MSM?

Many of the killings are the result of battles between rival drug smugglers for lucrative routes into the United States. Mexican cities are essentially under siege, and the killings are spilling over the border into the United States and as far as Canada....

You see what is going on, right? What is being put in place under drug war cover?

Mexican drug cartels have spread to “our own backyards,’’ Attorney General Eric Holder said yesterday....

Yeah, I heard they were burning down pot fields.

The indictments accuse 10 suspected Mexican drug bosses and 33 other people of using everything from a cargo plane to makeshift submarines to bring huge quantities of drugs to US cities. The cases expand federal efforts to dethrone the cartels’ senior leadership.

And do what, put in their own men?

First, though, the suspects must be caught. The cartel leaders are wanted in Mexico, and some have been sought by Mexican and US law enforcement for many years.

Pffft! They don't want to catch them because these guys are working for them!

Investigators say the suspects used almost every type of transportation to move the drugs: a Boeing 747 cargo plane, submarines and semi-submersibles, container ships, fishing vessels, buses, rail cars, and tractor-trailers. The rings generated nearly $6 billion in drug profits, prosecutors said....

How could they KNOW ALL THAT and not have gotten all over it, huh?

You know, I'm just so sick of the MSM bulls***.

The flurry of indictments, unsealed in Chicago and New York, depicts sprawling distribution networks stretching back nearly two decades, based on investigations by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Internal Revenue Service.

Known about it that long, 'eh?

John Morton, the head of the immigration agency, said the cartels “are not indestructible. They are made up of men who commit crime. Through these indictments, these men will be left with lives on the run, looking over their shoulders. And they should be running.’’ ''

So is GOVERNMENT, although those criminals walk free among us.

DEA chief Michele Leonart said there are “fewer and fewer places for these criminals to hide.’’

Yeah, whatever, DEA.
