"New York state lawmakers reject gay marriage bill" by Michael Gormley, Associated Press Writer | December 2, 2009
ALBANY, N.Y. --New York lawmakers on Wednesday rejected a bill that would have made their state the sixth to allow gay marriage, stunning advocates who suffered a similar decision by Maine voters just last month.
The New York measure failed by a wider-than-expected margin....
Frustrating, isn't it, when you can't get it up, huh?
Gov. David Paterson called Wednesday one of his saddest days in 20 years of public service and he criticized senators who he said support gay marriage but "didn't have the intestinal fortitude to vote for it. Senate sponsor Thomas Duane, a Manhattan Democrat and the Legislature's first openly gay member, expressed anger and disappointment. "I wasn't expecting betrayal," he said....
Hey, it's not like we CHEATED ON YOU!
The PUBLIC REPEATEDLY TELLS YOU we DON'T WANT IT, and yet?
“What is it about democracy that these groups don’t understand?’’
Supporters had been hopeful they could eke out a narrow win, or a much closer vote. But afterward, they said private assurances were broken.
Stood up on the blind date, huh?
In the end, a half-dozen Democrats opposed the measure when it was expected only two or three would vote no. While no Republicans supported the bill, most advocates expected it would attract as many as four or five GOP senators.... Immediately following the vote, gay rights advocates chanted: "Equal rights now!"
"We have a road map for 2010," said Alan Van Capelle, executive director of the Empire Pride Agenda, a leading proponent of the bill. "We certainly know who are friends. We certainly go to bed tonight knowing more about where our support is, and that's a victory."
Will you guys stop it with the sick puns please?
But a fight in the election year next year might be more difficult....
Same as trying to get it up when you have a problem.
It's a mental thing after a while.

"N.Y. gay marriage measure defeated; Governor says vote lacked fortitude" by Jeremy W. Peters, New York Times | December 3, 2009
ALBANY, N.Y. - The New York state Senate decisively rejected a bill yesterday that would have allowed gay couples to wed, providing a major victory for those who oppose same-sex marriage and underscoring the deep and emotional divisions surrounding the issue.
The 38-24 margin startled proponents of the bill, and signaled that political momentum, at least right now, has shifted against same-sex marriage, even in heavily Democratic New York. The vote followed more than a year of lobbying by gay rights organizations, who have poured close to $1 million into New York legislative races to boost support for the measure....
But they are not "outsiders" like the antitax people are to the pro-gay, pro-tax papers!
More pooh-poohs:
"One of the seven couples who brought the landmark lawsuit is now in the midst of a divorce."
