Slow Saturday Special: Concord Crazy

"Armed man subdued after Concord hospital standoff" by Rebecca Fiore, Globe Correspondent  April 03, 2015

After an hour-and-a-half of negotiations Friday morning, police were able to prevent a 59-year-old man from harming himself or others on the helicopter pad at Emerson Hospital in Concord, authorities said.

Police responded to the hospital around 8:25 a.m. and met a Pepperell man’s relatives, who wanted help calming him down.

The man ran from the building and onto the hospital’s helicopter pad, where he pulled a knife and threatened police who approached him, Concord police spokesman John M. Guilfoil said in a statement.

Neighboring departments, a North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT team, State Police, and the State Police Air Wing all assisted in the incident.

I'm amazed at how feeble cops are these days. They always need waves and waves of back-up now. Back in my day, a couple of cops could have dealt with this easily enough.

The man was taken into custody, and no one was injured, Guilfoil said.

I suppose we should all be thankful no one was killed, yup. What a low bar these days here in AmeriKa.

“This is an example of quick work by police, using specialized units and advanced training to save a life today . . . ” Concord Police Chief Joseph O’Connor said. “I am proud of the partnerships that the Concord Police has established with our partner agencies, and I am relieved to report that no one was hurt during an incident that could have been much worse.”

The man, whose name was not released, is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at the hospital, Guilfoil said.

I think I need one for continuing to read this slop.
