Storrow Drive Suicide

"Man killed after fall from Storrow Drive overpass" by Jacqueline Tempera Globe Correspondent  July 08, 2015

A 55-year-old man died Tuesday night after he fell off an overpass on Storrow Drive, State Police said.

Two men, whom State Police troopers identified as homeless, were allegedly drinking on the Philip G. Bowker Overpass at about 6 p.m. when one fell backward into the Muddy River, according to Sergeant John Gentile, a State Police spokesman.

The 55-year-old man, who died at the scene, had not been identified Tuesday night. Gentile said he believes that both men were intoxicated at the time.

Boston firefighters waded through the murky waters of the Muddy River before they found the man’s body at the bottom of the river. He appears to have drowned, State Police said.

The second man remained beneath the overpass at 7 p.m. Tuesday, holding his head in his hands and crying. He declined to speak with reporters.

“These two were buddies,” Gentile said. “They were always hanging out around here.”

The firefighters were decontaminated before the scene was cleared, police said.
