Patrick's Political Prejudice

The hypocrisy of the Boston Globe is also showing.

"Patrick stuns and heartens by shunning men’s night" by Michael Levenson, Globe Staff | December 8, 2009

Club members and their guests, who include many high-powered executives and political leaders, said they were stunned and disappointed....

The governor’s decision was praised by several politically active Massachusetts women....

Yeah, it was a POLITICAL DECISION -- like everything else he does -- because this guy is SOOOOO UNPOPULAR!

The club was founded in 1883 by leading Irish-Americans in Boston who were responding to their own exclusion from the city’s Brahmin social clubs, which were dominated by the Yankee elite.... Over the decades, the club has mixed windy speeches on history and politics with high jinks and tomfoolery.... The club holds three dinners a year, which for decades were staples of the city’s political scene. Although most of its members are of Irish descent, many of its speakers are not....

Details about the size and makeup of the club’s membership are not public, and a past president yesterday was vague about requirements for joining, which he said is by invitation. The club’s president, James T. Brett, did not return calls seeking more information. The Clover Club dinners, held at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel, still attract more than 600 men, but are now closed to the press....

“Every governor I have ever known has spoken at the club,’’ said Thomas P. O’Neill III, a club member, former lieutenant governor, and a son of the former US House speaker, who was also a member. “It never got caught up in that controversy about women or men-only clubs.’’

So it is only a problem NOW?

--more--"

Yeah, who would want to raise or use divisions in our society, huh?

"Patrick was right to skip boys’ night out

Had Patrick lent the prestige of his office to a men-only club, he would have helped to uphold the kind of knee-jerk exclusion that long kept minorities from golf courses and women from their fair share of seats at power-brokers’ tables....

Oh, you guys are being
USED as TOOLS!

Yeah, KEEP THAT THOUGHT in MIND and REMEMBER who SAID IT!

And consider this:

One thing the Jewish community had to deal with is the whole issue of overcoming the melting-pot ideology that was so prevalent at the beginning of the last century. Since then, it has become more acceptable to accept differences.’’

Yeah, strange how THAT GROUP'S EXCLUSIONS are OKAY, huh?

"A lesson in philanthropy; Anonymous donors give $12 million to a small Jewish day school" by Michael Paulson, Globe Staff | December 4, 2009

An anonymous group of donors has given more than $12 million to a small Jewish high school in Waltham, providing a boost not only to the school, but also to the world of Jewish philanthropy, which has been jolted by the twin shocks of the recession and the Bernard L. Madoff scandal....

Yeah, strange how THOSE CHARITIES BOUNCED BACK, huh?

And how those haven't.

The contribution also highlights the degree to which the fast-growing world of Jewish day schools has become a significant beneficiary of new Jewish philanthropy.

“These are difficult times, and for sure this is a very large gift to a single school,’’ said Barry Shrage, the president of Combined Jewish Philanthropies, an umbrella organization for Jewish institutions and groups in the Boston area. “What this represents is folks who believe that more intensive forms of Jewish education will be important to preserving a Jewish future.’’

****************

“Intensive Jewish education has become considerably more mainstream than it was,’’ said Rabbi Joshua Elkin, executive director of the Partnership for Excellence in Jewish Education. “One thing the Jewish community had to deal with is the whole issue of overcoming the melting-pot ideology that was so prevalent at the beginning of the last century. Since then, it has become more acceptable to accept differences.’’

I'm sorry, but I CAN NOT STOMACH the RANK RACISM and SUPREMACY!!!

Jewish philanthropy has taken a hit in recent months, though, as a result of the recession and the evaporation of false profits earned by investors with Madoff, who has been sentenced to 150 years in prison after pleading guilty to securities fraud and other charges.

Yeah, the POOR *EWS again!!! Yeah, EVERYONE is SICK of hearing it!!!

Where the MSM will never go:

That's why they never really do any INVESTIGATION!

The $12.25 million gift to Gann Academy is among the largest gifts ever to a private school, according to Rae Goldsmith, vice president of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, which tracks such contributions. According to a list published by the organization, there have only been 18 gifts of larger amounts, including a $15 million gift last year from the Yawkey Foundation to the Pope John Paul II Academy in Dorchester, and a $25 million gift last year from Oscar L. Tang to Phillips Academy in Andover.

Yeah, what economic crisis?

"Swiss ban new mosque minarets in backlash against Muslims; Rights groups decry surprise ballot result" by Alexander G. Higgins, Associated Press | November 30, 2009

GENEVA - Swiss voters overwhelmingly approved a constitutional ban on minarets yesterday, barring construction of the iconic mosque towers in a surprise vote that put Switzerland at the forefront of a European backlash against a growing Muslim population.

Not just over there, is it?

Isn't it amazing how Jewish racism is acceptable and praised as Muslims face persecution everywhere they go?

Muslim groups in Switzerland and abroad condemned the vote as biased and anti-Islamic. Business groups said the decision hurt Switzerland’s international standing and could damage relations with Muslim nations and wealthy investors who bank, travel, and shop there.

“The Swiss have failed to give a clear signal for diversity, freedom of religion, and human rights,’’ said Omar Al-Rawi, integration representative of the Islamic Denomination in Austria, which said its reaction was “grief and deep disappointment.’’

Diversity is only for some.

About 300 people turned out for a spontaneous demonstration on the square outside Parliament, holding up signs saying, “That is not my Switzerland,’’ placing candles in front of a model of a minaret and making another minaret shape out of the candles themselves. “We’re sorry,’’ said another sign. A young woman pinned to her jacket a piece of paper saying, “Swiss passport for sale.’’

Now THAT is what I LIKE to SEE!!!

The referendum by the nationalist Swiss People’s Party labeled minarets as symbols of rising Muslim political power that could one day transform Switzerland into an Islamic nation.

Yeah, and they would PROBABLY BE BETTER OFF!!!

So when do the menorahs come down?

The initiative was approved 57.5 to 42.5 percent by about 2.67 million voters. Only four of the 26 cantons or states opposed the initiative, granting the double approval that makes it part of the Swiss constitution. Muslims make up about 6 percent of Switzerland’s 7.5 million people. Many are refugees from the Yugoslav wars of the 1990s and about one in 10 actively practices their religion, the government says.

Looks like a MAJOR OVERREACTION, huh?

The country’s four standing minarets, which will not be affected by the ban, do not traditionally broadcast the call to prayer outside their own buildings.

So then WHAT is up the SWISS BUNG HOLE?

And why would they be upset about something that sounds beautiful?

The sponsors of the initiative provoked complaints of bias from local officials and human-rights groups with campaign posters that showed minarets rising like missiles from the Swiss flag next to a fully veiled woman. Backers said the growing Muslim population was straining the country “because Muslims don’t just practice religion.’’

Oh, it was a PROPAGANDA CAMPAIGN that got 'em ALL FEARED UP, huh?

“The minaret is a sign of political power and demand, comparable with whole-body covering by the burqa, tolerance of forced marriage, and genital mutilation of girls,’’ the sponsors said.

Of course, DROPPING BOMBS on them and MISSILING their villages is OKAY!!!

They said Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey compared mosques to Islam’s military barracks and called “the minarets our bayonets.’’ Erdogan made the comment in citing an Islamic poem many years before he became prime minister. Anxieties about growing Muslim minorities have rippled across Europe in recent years, leading to legal changes in some countries. There have been French moves to ban the full-length body covering known as the burqa. Some German states have introduced bans on head scarves for Muslim women teaching in public schools.

Oh, in the LANDS of FREEDOM and FREE SPEECH?

Mosques and minaret construction projects in Sweden, France, Italy, Austria, Greece, Germany, and Slovenia have been met by protests. But the Swiss ban on minarets, sponsored by the country’s largest political party, was one of the most extreme reactions. Amnesty International said the vote violated freedom of religion and would probably be overturned by the Swiss supreme court or the European Court of Human Rights. The seven-member Cabinet that heads the Swiss government had spoken out strongly against the initiative but the government said it accepted the vote and would impose an immediate ban on minaret construction.

The issue remained a story for days as well in the divisive, agenda-pushing paper.

"Swiss ban on minarets stirs anger" by Associated Press | December 1, 2009

GENEVA - A top Swiss official said yesterday that voter approval of a ban on minarets next to mosques could be struck down in court, as critics at home and abroad swiftly condemned the vote, saying it undermined the country’s secular image.

Legal analysts have questioned whether the ban on the Islamic towers used for the call to prayer is compatible with Switzerland’s constitution and international human rights law.

Justice Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf said it would come into force immediately, but indicated it could be overturned. “The ban contradicts the European Convention on Human Rights,’’ Zurich daily Blick cited Widmer-Schlumpf as saying. Switzerland currently presides over the European Court of Human Rights, which rules on breaches of the convention.

The vote brings the focus of a Europe-wide debate over Islam and immigration to Switzerland, and is a serious slap in the face for the government, which campaigned against it. France’s foreign minister, Bernard Kouchner, said he was “a bit scandalized’’ by the vote. “I hope that the Swiss will go back on this decision rather quickly,’’ Kouchner said on France’s RTL radio. “It is an expression of intolerance, and I detest intolerance.’’
