U.S. Finally Cares About Kashmir

And not because people are being gunned down in the streets.

"
There were... shouts of “Down with America’’ and “Down with Israel’’.... the American government was dismayed by reports of the rioting, and he appealed for calm"

Yes, ignored those dead bodies lying around. Someone said something bad because they are hurt and angry.

"Thousands take to streets as Kashmir protests rage" by Associated Press | September 12, 2010

SRINAGAR, India — Police fired warning shots and tear gas to disperse hundreds of demonstrators who attacked a police post and burned government offices in Kashmir yesterday, as tens of thousands of people took to the streets to protest Indian rule in the Himalayan region, officials said....

Tens of thousands of people held protest marches across Indian Kashmir, a police officer said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to reporters.

It is TIME TO GO HOME, India!

The mostly Muslim region has seen near-daily antigovernment demonstrations and clashes between protesters and security forces in the past three months.

And yet the coverage has been sporadic at best over here.

Hey, it's only Muslims being gunned down.

At least 69 people — mostly teenage boys and young men — have been killed in the protests against control of the region by predominantly Hindu India.

Add that to the more than 68,000 (mostly Muslim) dead.

What do you mean you never heard of 'em?

I didn't see the U.S. complaining yet.

"15 dead as Kashmir tries to quell protests; Koran-burning fuels anger in troubled region" by Aijaz Hussain, Associated Press | September 14, 2010

SRINAGAR, India — Indian forces fought Kashmiri demonstrators in street battles yesterday that killed 15 people — including one police officer — in the deadliest day in a summer of violence challenging Indian rule in the disputed territory.

The violence broke out as Indian officials debated whether to relax harsh security regulations to try to ease tensions in the region.

Despite a rigid curfew, tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets, throwing rocks, torching government buildings and a Christian school, and chanting, “Go India, go back. We want freedom.’’

Okay, the burning of a Christian school reeks of a false flag!

Security forces shot at crowds in about a dozen places, killing 13 protesters and wounding 45 others, said Kuldeep Khoda, the director-general of the state police.

The day the authorities start OPENING FIRE into UNARMED CROWDS is the day they are DONE!

A teenage boy was killed later when troops opened fire at a protest in the southern town of Anantnag.

Violent antigovernment protests first erupted in June.

And they have been remarkably under-covered here in the AmeriKan press.

While separatists had planned a new round of demonstrations after the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan over the weekend, the anger in the streets yesterday was far greater than in previous demonstrations.

Well, when you are BLASTING GUNFIRE into the CROWDS that is going to happen!!!

Protesters were inflamed by reports on the Iranian state-run channel Press TV that the Koran was desecrated over the weekend in the United States, Khoda said.

Yeah, BLAME IRAN for that one!!

Have you NO SHAME, AmeriKan corporate media?

Though a Florida pastor called off his plans to burn the Muslim holy book, the channel showed footage of a different man destroying a Koran in Tennessee. Most broadcasters around the world did not report prominently on scattered desecration events by a handful of fringe anti-Muslim activists in the United States; the Iranian broadcaster carried the footage repeatedly.

Those bad Iranians!

Did they START INVASIONS by BLARING LIES from their HEADLINES, too?

The protesters chanted, “Down with Koran desecrators,’’ and protest leaders denounced the alleged desecration in speeches to the crowds. There were also shouts of “Down with America’’ and “Down with Israel’’ — rarely heard in Kashmir, where anger is normally directed at India.

As the protests worsened, the station was removed from local cable networks at the insistence of Kashmiri authorities.

US Ambassador Timothy Roemer said the American government was dismayed by reports of the rioting, and he appealed for calm.

He also condemned any Koran desecration as “disrespectful, intolerant, divisive, and unrepresentative of American values. The deliberate destruction of any holy book is an abhorrent act.’’

We have moved past that divisive bit of pure propaganda, thank you.

And those qualities actually does describe this nation. Comes form the media manipulation over decades.

In New Delhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said India was searching for a peaceful resolution to the summer of conflict.

Umm, the FIRST THING would be to TELL the TROOPS to STOP FIRING into CROWDS, no?

“We are willing to talk to every person or group which abjures violence, within the framework of our constitution,’’ Singh said in a speech to top army commanders.

Then WTF is with the GUNFIRE?

Singh’s statement came hours ahead of a meeting of top Cabinet ministers that was expected to decide whether to lift the Armed Forces Special Powers Act — which gives sweeping powers to security forces in Kashmir — as a good will gesture in parts of the territory that have been relatively peaceful. A statement issued after the Cabinet ministers’ meeting did not mention the act, suggesting no decision was taken.

Still waiting.

Anything else from the U.S. government?

Hey, at least they weren't stoning her, right.

What are they doing out in the street without a burqa?

NEW DELHI — Thousands of Indian security forces fanned out across Kashmir yesterday, announcing over loudspeakers that they would shoot anyone defying a curfew imposed a day after 18 people were killed in clashes between police and protesters.

Yeah, that's a gesture that will help chill things.

Demonstrations in the disputed Himalayan region erupted Monday amid reports that a Koran had been desecrated in the United States. But they quickly turned into anti-Indian protests, the latest in a summer of violent demonstrations against the Indian military presence.

Who is firing into crowds and killing people?

The stone-pelting, intifadah-like street revolt has been the most serious crisis in Kashmir in decades.

Yes, I noticed the parallels.

At least 88 people, mostly teenage boys, have been killed.

The violence has turned a once-prosperous region into a locked-down war zone, with Indian security forces posted in bunkers on nearly every street, and education, health care, and business at a standstill.

I don't see a peep from the U.S.

Despite the curfew, hundreds of protesters took to the streets yesterday.

I am SO ENVIOUS that other people in the world do not take the s*** the like us AmeriKans.

Security forces responded by firing live ammunition and tear gas to disperse them, police said.

If Iran had done that the corporate media would be screaming about it.

At least 14 people were wounded, according to police, bringing the number of injured since Monday to at least 145.

Civilians reported that the curfew was the strictest in memory, and that many residents were not allowed out for medical care or to buy food.

Yeah, this is REALLY STARTING to RESEMBLE Gaza!

“There is a shortage of blood,’’ Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, a moderate Muslim leader, said in a telephone interview.

“We are trying to organize blood drives. . . but whoever is coming out — even if they are doctors — are being beaten and harassed,’’ he said. “The sad part is that all summer, people were being killed for expressing political sentiment. Now they are killed for expressing their religious sentiments. It seems the answer to their sentiments is just bullets.’’

And NOT a PEEP from the U.S. government!

Then again, why would I expect one?

'tis only Muslims being mowed down.

Now imagine the corporate media and government reaction were it Jews getting gunned down in the streets.

Epilogue:

"MORE VIOLENCE IN KASHMIR -- Protesters on the outskirts of Sringar, India, prepared to throw rocks at Indian police yesterday. Clashes in the region left five people dead and 32 wounded. Indian leaders debated how to end months of separatist protests, and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said the government is willing to talk to any group that does not embrace violence (Boston Globe September 16 2010)."

If I had not bought a paper I would never have been able to type that.
