"Texas flooding claims one life" by Associated Press | September 9, 2010

ARLINGTON, Texas — The remnants of Tropical Storm Hermine caused massive flooding in northern Texas yesterday, killing at least one person and submerging much of the city of Arlington under water.

And yesterday the MSM seemed to say it was no threat.

Television footage from a Fox affiliate showed firefighters using ladders to reach residents stranded in the upper floors of their homes in a subdivision. Coffee-colored floodwaters rushed past roller-coaster tracks at a Six Flags amusement park. Bewildered residents surprised by the extent of the flooding waded through waist-deep water in the streets.

Two mobile homes and a house were swept away north of Austin, and dozens of people sought emergency shelter after state and local authorities performed numerous high-water rescues from Austin to Dallas. Remnants of the storm, downgraded to a tropical depression Tuesday night, appeared to be moving into southern Oklahoma in satellite images and were forecast to move as far north as Kansas in the coming days.

The National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings for many parts of Oklahoma, and the entire state was under a flash flood watch.

At least one person died in a vehicle submerged by water from a swollen creek in Killeen, north of Austin, the National Weather Service reported. Elsewhere, authorities were searching for an unknown number of possible victims, said Sergeant John Foster of the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department.

"Detroit mayor defends Fire Dept. response to blaze that engulfed 85 houses" by Associated Press | September 9, 2010

DETROIT — Mayor Dave Bing of Detroit defended a stretched Fire Department yesterday and its response to what he termed a natural disaster, after wind-whipped flames destroyed dozens of occupied and abandoned houses across the city....

When pressed on whether the Fire Department was adequately staffed, Bing sidestepped the question and pointed out that no one was killed....

Alonzo Rush, 62, a retired auto worker, said it took 90 minutes for a fire truck to arrive, by which time several nearby homes were aflame.

“We called, all the neighbors called, but we didn’t get an answer at 911,’’ Rush said. “We’re not getting the services we once had and what we’re paying for.’’

That is what happens when all your money goes for wars, Wall Street, Israel, and lavish "public servant" pensions and perks.

City Council president Charles Pugh earlier downplayed concerns that the struggling city’s Fire Department was too poorly equipped to respond. “It was a freakish day,’’ he said. “The wind was tremendous.’’

Are all AmeriKa's politicians PoS or what?

I'm just wondering why the steel fence didn't melt.
