Company spokesman Jim Dorsey confirmed the forecast, published by The Wall Street Journal, in a phone interview today from Lexington, Mass. China’s manufacturing expanded for a fifth month in July as record lending and a $586 billion stimulus plan drove a recovery in the world’s fastest-growing major economy, an official Purchasing Managers’ Index showed on Aug. 1.

US industrial production has fallen for eight straight months. As of 2007, the latest year for which data are available, the United States accounted for 20 percent of global manufacturing. That compared with 12 percent for China, the Journal reported.
