Shelly Taylor, 48, earned a portion of her $108,000 annual salary for the month following her Aug. 7 resignation because she was helping her replacement, Richard C. Heidlage, ease into his new job responsibilities, Heidlage said. Now SANE, championed by advocates as the most sensitive and effective way to treat victims of rape and sexual abuse, is taking a 40 percent hit from the state budget ax, one of a series of cuts Governor Deval Patrick announced last week to close a $600 million budget shortfall....
SANE’s budget of roughly $3 million is being reduced by about $1 million, the agency said....

While the number of homeless families continues to increase, the city has reduced the number of single homeless adults by 500 people, or nearly 30 percent, over the past five years by increasing the amount of subsidized housing....
