This is the worst I have ever seen it in my 40 years’’

"Salvation Army rings in annual fund drive early" by Brian MacQuarrie, Globe Staff | November 13, 2009

“This is the worst I have ever seen it in my 40 years as an officer in the Salvation Army,’’ said Major William Bode, the organization’s state commander....

“We are seeing people who say: ‘I’ve never had to ask for help from the Salvation Army. I’ve always been the one who has donated and put money in the kettle,’ ’’ Bode said. “But this year they’re saying, ‘I’m not going to be able to do that because I’ve lost my job.’ ’’

Hey, at least SOMEONE is SPENDING MONEY, huh?

In addition to an increased need for donations, Bode said, the Salvation Army is seeing a surge in applicants for minimum-wage work as bell-ringers and other positions during the holidays. “For those who want to work and are able to work, hopefully we can provide them a job for a couple of weeks,’’ Bode said....

But WE ARE IN RECOVERY, blah, blah, blah!

This year, the organization is marking the 125th anniversary of its mission in Massachusetts. In a nod to the 21st century, the Salvation Army is turning to the Internet to help boost donations. With a few computer keystrokes, volunteers can ring a virtual bell at www.onlineredkettle.org, Bode said.

Yeah, AVOID the SOCIAL EMBARRASSMENT:

Boston Globe Reporter Goes Begging

That's a BOSTON GLOBE INSULT, isn't it, readers?

Much of the heavy lifting, however, will continue to be performed by bell-ringers....

The bell-ringers include volunteers such as Nelly Escobar, who is helping to disburse a little cheer while thousands of Massachusetts families are struggling....

To her, the size of the donation is not important. What matters, she said, is the contribution itself. “It doesn’t matter if someone gives me only a penny, because a penny helps,’’ Esobar said. “People come here, and it makes me so happy.’’

Hey, WHAT DO YOU KNOW, another INSULT from the ELITIST, MONEY-LOSING BOSTON GLOBE!

Would BANKS and WAR-LOOTERS have been HAPPY with a PENNY?!!!!!!!!
