Officials are stepping up security at the Lawrence School in Brookline after two fourth-grade girls reported seeing an unidentified man coming out of a girls bathroom during school hours Tuesday.

No one was harmed, and Henry Warren, chairman of the School Committee, said the man did not speak or interact with the girls, who immediately reported seeing the stranger to their teacher. School officials searched the building and called police, who also searched the school, but the stranger was not located, Warren said....

Principal Rick Rogers and Vice Principal Monica Crowley sent an e-mail to parents yesterday saying that effective immediately the front door will be locked at 8:10 a.m. every day and that anyone wishing to enter will need to ring the door bell and be buzzed in by office staff. A surveillance camera might be installed in a hallway, the e-mail said....

Isn't school enough of a prison already?
