Democrats Can't Stop Spending

Even if they tried (which they don't; they like to pretend, but they never do):

"The main driver of long-term deficits is the chasm between tax collections and the benefit programs Medicare and Medicaid.... The military savings the administration projected this year are in question given the buildup in Afghanistan, and it has been unable to close corporate tax loopholes worth many billions of dollars. Interest costs have increased with the bigger debt"

Sigh.

Yeah, they NEVER GO AFTER the WASTEFUL WAR MACHINE and its MASS-MURDER or the CORPORATIONS they serve!

It has to come out of SOCIAL SERVICES like HEALTHCARE!

"Democrats study ways to lower federal deficit; Options include bipartisan panel" by Jackie Calmes and Carl Hulse, New York Times | November 1, 2009

WASHINGTON - Faced with anxiety in financial markets about the huge federal deficit and the potential for it to become an electoral liability for Democrats, the White House and congressional leaders are weighing options for narrowing the gap, including a bipartisan commission that could force tax increases and spending cuts.

Why can't they just DO THEIR JOBS?

But even the idea of a panel to bridge the partisan divide has run into partisan objections.

Many Democrats, including in the White House, are loath to cede such far-reaching decisions to a commission and doubt Republicans’ willingness to compromise. And most Republicans remain adamantly opposed to tax increases, leaving the prospects for any bipartisan approach limited at best. The proponents, however, are pressing for a Senate vote this month....

Yeah, let's WASTE MORE TIME down there!

Concerns about the deficit are building even as the White House and Congress continue to add to it with tax cuts and spending to stimulate a still-fragile economy. Yet those one-time costs do not trouble most economists and market analysts. The main driver of long-term deficits is the chasm between tax collections and the benefit programs Medicare and Medicaid, which are at one of their lowest levels in many decades relative to the size of the economy.

The chief sources of significant deficit reductions - savings in government health programs and tax increases on the rich - will have been tapped to offset the cost of a health care bill if it is enacted. The military savings the administration projected this year are in question given the buildup in Afghanistan, and it has been unable to close corporate tax loopholes worth many billions of dollars. Interest costs have increased with the bigger debt. And the economic forecast worsened since Obama’s first budget.

Proposals for a bipartisan commission could get a vote in late November, when Congress must raise the nation’s nearly $12 trillion debt limit so the Treasury Department can continue borrowing to keep the government running. Measures to raise the legal debt limit have been magnets for antideficit amendments in the past....

This ENDLESS BORROWING for CRIPPLING DEBT we can NEVER REPAY has to STOP -- and SO DO THOSE INTEREST PAYMENTS to CRIMINAL BANKSTERS!

There is no indication that more liberal Democrats have any appetite for deep spending cuts or further tax increases in the coming year as the party battles to maintain its majorities in the House and Senate in the 2011 midterm elections. But the party’s more fiscally hawkish members are becoming more outspoken about the need to address the issue in a serious way....

When will you liberals learn that YOU DON'T MATTER to YOUR LEADERS?!

The "public option" should prove that to you!

"Health care bill’s costs rising, analysts say; Business groups call it misguided" by Associated Press | November 3, 2009

WASHINGTON - The health care bill headed for a vote in the House this week would cost $1.2 trillion or more over a decade, according to numerous Democratic officials and figures contained in an analysis by congressional budget analysts, far higher than the $900 billion cited by President Obama as a price tag for his reform plan.

Translation: DEMOCRAPS (gasp) LIED!

While the Congressional Budget Office has put the cost of expanding coverage in the legislation at roughly $1 trillion, Democrats added billions more for public health.... Many of the additions are designed to improve benefits or ease access to coverage in government programs. Yet, even with the new help that Democrats want to provide, the CBO said yesterday that some middle-class families would still face a big budget hit for health care.

A family of four making $66,000 a year could face a total health care bill of $10,000 - the total of premiums, copayments, and deductibles, even after $10,500 in government assistance, the budget analysts said.

HOLY CRAP!!!! $25,000 POLICIES!!!!

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has referred repeatedly to the bill’s net cost of $894 billion over a decade for coverage. Republicans put the cost of the bill at nearly $1.3 trillion....

And YOU'RE the NEXT CONTESTANT on the PRICE is RIGHT!!!!

Also last evening, 11 of the nation’s largest business groups, including the National Federation of Independent Business and the US Chamber of Commerce, launched a multimillion-dollar TV ad campaign on national cable TV and in 19 states. The ad says the House legislation would raise taxes and worsen the economy without curbing medical expenses.

Pull the plug, readers.
