Telegram From the New York Times

You know, WHO REALLY CARES anymore?

"Times Co. takes Worcester paper off the market; Telegram & Gazette had lured 2 bidders" by Robert Gavin, Globe Staff | December 8, 2009

The New York Times Co. said yesterday it won’t sell the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, after spending several months exploring a possible sale and attracting at least two bidders.

WHO GIVES a S***? Not me!!

The move follows a similar decision by the Times Co. to hold onto The Boston Globe, which it also tried to sell for several months before ultimately deciding to take the paper, New England’s largest, off the market. The Globe, the Telegram, and their websites, www.boston.com and www.telegram.com, form the Times Co.’s New England Media Group.

In a note to Telegram employees, Times Co. chairman Arthur O. Sulzberger Jr. and chief executive Janet L. Robinson said the Central Massachusetts paper is “making substantial progress in transforming every part of its journalistic and business operations’’ after implementing job cuts, cost reductions, price increases, and other measures. “While the changes we made were often difficult, resulting in restructuring in virtually every department along with significant staffing reductions,’’ the executives said, “we are convinced that in partnership with the Boston Globe you are now prepared to move forward to a brighter future.’’

And thanks for the "second-quarter net income of $39.1 million."

The announcement was greeted with some disappointment in Worcester, where community support had built for a group of local bidders led by Ralph D. Crowley Jr., chief executive of bottler Polar Beverages Co., and former T&G editor Harry T. Whitin. “There was a strong feeling that local ownership would be a big asset to the community,’’ said Richard Kennedy, president of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce. “But as long as the Times Co. is committed to maintaining a presence in Worcester, that could work, too.’’

Yeah, NO ONE WANTS the New York Times anymore!

************

The Times Co. is continuing to seek the sale of its nearly 18 percent stake in New England Sports Ventures, which owns the Boston Red Sox, Fenway Park, the New England Sports Network cable television channel, and other properties, a Times Co. spokeswoman said....

Oh, that explains all the SELF-SERVING SPORTS COVERAGE!!!!!

"Google’s latest plunge delivers news by topic; Web page groups Times, Post stories to maximize views" by Howard Kurtz, Washington Post | December 9, 2009

WASHINGTON - Take the engineering mystique of Google, add the prestige of The Washington Post and The New York Times, throw in the spice of secret meetings, and what have you got? A new online tool that those involved in the partnership see as a first step toward changing the way news is consumed online.

And remember, readers, the Washington Post is the CIA 's newspaper.

Google executives are touting their venture with two of the nation’s top papers - called the Living Stories page - as their contribution to the beleaguered newspaper business. The idea is to simplify things for readers by grouping developing stories about a hot topic - say, health care reform - on a single Web page, with updates automatically highlighted at the top of the screen....

By grouping the stories day after day under one Web address, the Times and Post could boost their Google rankings, which would tend to push those pages toward the top of the list when people search for that subject....

Translation: Google is going to become a PROPAGANDA-PUSHER for the lying, money-losing, AmeriKan MSM!!!

NEW YORK - The New York Times Co. said yesterday that the print advertising market has improved modestly.

Yeah, I saw the Macy's Morning Flier with it's 13 full page ads the other day (December 8th when I actually bought one).

The company, which owns The Boston Globe and The Worcester Telegram & Gazette, expects its print advertising revenue to decline 25 percent in the fourth quarter from the same period of 2008. While that is high by traditional standards, it marks an improvement over the 31.2 percent decline in the third quarter. And it is slightly better than what other newspaper companies generally have been reporting this year....

Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!

Yup, WATER STILL GUSHING INTO the N.Y.T. TITANIC but THINGS are LOOKING UP (usually what happens to a ship when it sinks).

Yeah, the DECEPTIVE HEADLINES and OUTRIGHT LIES must have something to do with it!!!

Newspaper companies have dealt with the advertising shortfalls by raising newsstand prices and cutting costs. Most recently, the Times Co. laid off at least 25 people at its New York Times News Service, and the company plans to eliminate 100 newsroom jobs at the flagship newspaper by yearend.
