Inmate Escape in Arizona

TEMPE, Ariz. — Authorities in suburban Phoenix say a handcuffed and shackled inmate was seriously injured after he kicked out a window in a police transport van on a freeway and jumped out of the moving vehicle.

Gilbert police Sergeant Jesse Sanger said Adam Arlington broke out of a city police van transporting him to the Maricopa County jail in downtown Phoenix about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The 31-year-old inmate suddently leaped from the van’s passenger’s side window and ran across Interstate 10 before being recaptured, Sanger said.

Arlington was in custody on a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct and was going to be booked into jail after he was unable to post bond.
