Trump Jabs Base in Back

Either the election has already been decided (rigged) or this guy is a delusional idiot:

"President Trump said Thursday that it "wouldn't hurt" his reelection prospects if a coronavirus vaccine becomes available before election day -- but insisted that is not what's motivating him. As he spoke with reporters upon departing from the White House for Ohio, Trump touted progress on vaccines and therapeutics, saying "A lot of good things are happening right now." Meanwhile, Republican Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced that he had tested positive for the coronavirus shortly before he was scheduled to meet Trump in Ohio. Asked before departing Washington whether a vaccine might be available by Nov. 3, he said, "I'm optimistic that it will be probably around that day. I believe we'll have the vaccine before the end of the year, certainly." Asked whether that would help his prospects against Joe Biden, Trump said, "It wouldn't hurt, it wouldn't hurt, but I'm not doing it, not for the election," he added. "I want it fast because I want to save lives." The same issue came up a couple of hours earlier when Trump was interviewed by Geraldo Rivera for his Cleveland-based radio show. Asked how soon the United States could see a vaccine, the president said, "Sooner than the end of the year, could be much sooner." "Sooner than Nov. 3? Rivera asked. "Oh, I think in some cases, yes, it's possible before, but right around that time," Trump said. "We have great companies, great, these are the greatest companies of the world, and the rest of the world is also doing vaccines, so let's see how they do. I'm all for them."

He wasn't always, so what happened?

Two-thirds of Americans say they would accept a coronavirus vaccine

The Globe front-paged that lying poll, when it is more like  50% (or even less) as they try to shame the sentient half of the population into taking the poison while claiming a 70 percent to 90 percent vaccination rate will be needed, and thanks to the authorities and pre$$ for denying us herd immunity for a "viru$" that has a 99.98% survival rate!

The forecast of 295,011 deaths is 137,000 more than the roughly 158,000 U.S. deaths reported so far. The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation model assumes that many states will impose new stay-at-home orders as deaths climb. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention monitors the model along with forecasts from about 30 other modeling groups. Combined, the models predict from 168,000 to 182,000 total COVID-19 deaths by Aug. 22....."

The goddamn models they have policy on have been wrong from the start, and there they go again!

The globe is even saying we need a memorial to coronavirus victims -- thus turning it into a 'searing’ or 'molding’ events (that) takes on transcendent’ importance and therefore retain their power even as the experiencing generation passes from the scene.

Certainly, Africans would have some concerns about the vaccine that is being rolled out (but not South Africans):

"Africa’s confirmed coronavirus cases have surpassed 1 million, but global health specialists say the true toll is likely several times higher, reflecting the gaping lack of testing for the continent’s 1.3 billion people. While specialists say infection tolls in richer nations can be significant undercounts, large numbers of undetected cases are a greater danger for Africa, with many of the world’s weakest health systems. The World Health Organization calls the milestone a “pivotal point” for Africa as infections in several countries are surging. The virus has spread beyond major cities “into distant hinterlands” where few health resources exist and reaching care could take days. Africa’s most developed country, South Africa, has strained to cope as hospital beds fill up and confirmed cases are more than a half-million, ranking fifth in the world. The country has Africa’s most extensive testing and data collection, and yet a South African Medical Research Council report last week showed many COVID-19 deaths were going uncounted. It’s all a warning for Africa’s other 53 countries of what might lie ahead. While dire early predictions for the pandemic have not played out, “we think it’s going to be here at a slow burn,” the WHO’s Africa chief, Matshidiso Moeti, said Thursday. Just two African countries at the start of the pandemic were equipped to test for the virus. Now virtually all have basic capacity, but supplies are often scarce. Some countries have a single testing machine. Some conduct fewer than 500 tests per million people, while richer countries overseas conduct hundreds of thousands. Samples can take days to reach labs. Even in South Africa, turnaround times for many test results have been a week or longer."

Well, if there are more cases than known then the death rate plunges even further, and is the media starting to walk back this $hit?!

They can't do a 180 in a day or else we would hang them all.

Speaking of genocidal overlords:

"Germany will require people arriving from countries deemed high risk, such as the United States, to take coronavirus tests starting this weekend, the health minister said Thursday, as the country recorded its highest daily tally of new infections in three months. German officials have voiced alarm over a steady upward creep in the number of new infections over recent weeks. The national disease control center, the Robert Koch Institute, said 1,045 cases were recorded on Wednesday — the first time since May 7 that it has counted more than 1,000 new cases in a day. Daily figures can be volatile or distorted by delays in reporting, and the number is still far short of the peak of more than 6,000 reached in early April. “What we are seeing is a lot of small outbreaks,” Health Minister Jens Spahn told reporters. “People are getting infected at family parties, at their place of work, or at community facilities.” Spahn said that, starting Saturday, people arriving from those countries will also be required to take a test unless they bring a new test result. Germany’s COVID-19 response has been widely regarded as relatively successful. The Robert Koch Institute has recorded 9,175 deaths from more than 213,000 confirmed cases -- a lower death rate than in many comparable countries....."

Look at that!

"Alleging corruption, NY attorney general sues NRA, seeking to shut down the gun-rights lobby" by Danny Hakim New York Times, August 6, 2020

NEW YORK — Attorney General Letitia James filed a lawsuit Thursday seeking to dissolve the National Rifle Association, alleging that years of corruption and misspending had irreparably undermined its ability to operate as a nonprofit.

The legal confrontation could take years to play out and will leave the 148-year-old NRA — long the nation’s most influential gun-rights lobby but recently hobbled by financial woes and infighting — fighting for survival. The attorney general’s office previously presided over the dissolution of President Trump’s scandal-marred charitable foundation, but the NRA, with more than 5 million members, is a far larger organization that is expected to put up a more prolonged fight.

The lawsuit was followed by two others: The NRA sued James’s office in federal court in Albany, claiming her action was politically motivated and violated the organization’s First Amendment rights. And Karl Racine, attorney general of Washington, D.C., filed suit against the NRA and its charitable foundation, which is based in the city. Racine is seeking changes at the foundation and alleges the NRA misused millions of the foundation’s funds.

James also sued four current or former top NRA leaders, seeking tens of millions of dollars in restitution, including Wayne LaPierre, longtime chief executive. Also named are John Frazer, the general counsel; Josh Powell, a former LaPierre lieutenant; and Woody Phillips, former chief financial officer.

The suit accuses the NRA and the executives of “violating numerous state and federal laws” by enriching themselves, friends, families, and allies, and taking improper actions that cost the organization $64 million over three years. The NRA is chartered as a nonprofit in New York. James also seeks to oust LaPierre and Frazer and bar all four men from any nonprofit boards in New York.

The lawsuit alleged tax violations. James said during a news conference that she was referring the matter to the IRS in addition to taking her own action and did not rule out making a future criminal referral.

NRA officials have denounced James, a Democrat, since she referred to the group as a “terrorist organization” during her 2018 campaign. “This was a baseless, premeditated attack on our organization and the Second Amendment freedoms it fights to defend,” NRA president Carolyn Meadows said. “You could have set your watch by it: The investigation was going to reach its crescendo as we move into the 2020 election cycle.” She called the inquiry “a power grab by a political opportunist.”

I'm going to bite my tongue at this point and not fire off what I'm thinking.

The NRA is a stalwart ally of Trump but has an unusually low profile this election season. Its finances have been strained by internecine warfare, including a messy divorce from Ackerman McQueen, the advertising and strategy firm that was its most important contractor. Its finances have also been damaged by the pandemic, which forced it to cancel fund-raisers.

The lawsuit alleges LaPierre spent hundreds of thousands on private plane trips; he and his family were often allegedly “gifted the use of a 107-foot yacht” by an NRA vendor, and he spent more than $3.6 million on travel consultants over two years. He also is said to have secured a post-employment contract without approval worth more than $17 million.

New poll finds a close Senate race in Maine

Collins is trailing her Democratic challenger.

"Quinnipiac also released polls Thursday of voters in Kentucky and South Carolina, and found concerning signs for Republican incumbents in both states. In South Carolina, Democrat Jaime Harrison was in a dead heat with Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, 44 percent to 44 percent. That poll had a +/- 3.2 point margin of error. Meanwhile in Kentucky, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was 5 points ahead of his Democratic challenger, Amy McGrath, 49 percent to 44 percent, just within the +/-3.3 point margin of error. “Big political names. Huge political stakes. High anxiety for the GOP,” Quinnipiac University polling analyst Tim Malloy said in a news release. “Three GOP Senators who easily won their last reelection bids are looking over their shoulders less than three months from Election Day.” There was bad news for President Trump, too. In deep red South Carolina, voters were lukewarm about him, with the poll finding him ahead of Biden by just 5 points, 47 percent to 42 percent, and Biden was up big over Trump in Maine, 52 percent to 37 percent. Trump fared better in Kentucky, with 50 percent of support to Biden’s 41 percent....."

Trump claims Biden opposes God

Trump also sought to remind voters of the economic prosperity that much of the nation enjoyed before the coronavirus pandemic and said that he is best suited to rebuild a crippled economy, but his handling of the outbreak has weakened his bid for a second term, causing Trump to spend time and resources in a state he won easily in 2016 but now could be in danger of slipping away.

That is simply going to emphasize his complete and utter failure and legacy, and there will not be any presidential debates to help him, either.

Birx cautioned that Boston is one of four major cities that have increasing cases of the virus and rising rates of test positivity as she spoke Wednesday to public health officials nationally in a private call. A recording of the call was obtained by the Center for Public Integrity, a nonprofit investigative journalism organization. It was not known Thursday night if any Boston or state public health officials were on the call. “I also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that we are seeing a slow uptick in test positivity and cases in places like Chicago, Boston, and Detroit, and D.C.,” Birx said, according to the recording. “Right now, we’re looking at that as a metro, which is both the city itself and its county surrounding.”

UPDATE:

Baker slows Mass. reopening process, tightening restrictions on gatherings and restaurants

Governor Charlie Baker on Friday announced that he was reducing the limit on outdoor gatherings from 100 to 50 people. “Now we are seeing the virus escalate in certain communities around the commonwealth and we have to put together a plan working together to stop it,” Baker said during his regular State House briefing. “This fight against COVID 19 is far from over.” The move was part of a set of initiatives he announced that were intended to contain the virus and ramp up enforcement of measures intended to prevent its spread. He said the “notable decline” in the pandemic here “has caused some residents to feel a bit too relaxed about the seriousness of this virus.”

He has closed the bars, and who didn't see that coming?

“Bars are closed in Massachusetts and bars masquerading as restaurants also need to be closed,” he said. He said health and inspection officials previously had enforced orders, but Friday he was “authorizing all state and local police officers to enforce these orders and event hosts who violate these orders will be subject to fines.” Baker also said he was creating a COVID enforcement and intervention team to ramp up enforcement in key, high-risk communities and to coordinate local intervention efforts.

Baker said Friday that while “we clearly have some issues with bars and restaurants,” the biggest issue confronting the state’s COVID-19 response is “people who are familiar with people, being familiar with them in big groups” with gestures such as hugs and high fives and activities like dancing. People depart such events, Baker said, like “little ticking clocks” with the potential to pass the virus along to their families, “and then we’re off.”

The Baker administration said in a statement that the multi-agency COVID enforcement team will have a mandate that includes an array of tasks including targeted interventions and inspections; increased enforcement, including fines, of specific guidance for businesses to ensure businesses and residents are complying with COVID-19 orders; and supporting state alcohol regulators and local licensing boards in asserting their authority to fine restaurants or suspend or cancel liquor licenses when restaurants fail to comply with required COVID-19 safety measures.

What a $upreme a$$hole, and it's time to bring back the speak easies!

“One of the things we’re trying to do here is to give local communities, local law enforcement, and the State Police the ability to actually issue a fine,” Baker said. The governor also noted that the majority of state residents have complied with his various public health directives during the health crisis. “Everyone has been and continues to sacrifice to deal with this heinous virus,” Baker said.

The heinous virus is YOU, governor!!

Where do you think they are going to replace all the lost tax revenue, citizens of Massachusetts?
